Nervous about telling work

So I just found out I'm pregnant, 5+1, and I'm really nervous about telling work as I've only been there about 3 months and I have a 6 month probabtionary period. I need to tell them soon though, as I work in a lab. I just didn't think I'd get pregnant so quickly! I have two friends who recently had babies and it took them both over 6 months of trying - it was only our second go of it!

If you work in a lab I think you'd be best, for you n baby, to just tell them ASAP. They can't discriminate against you. It may be worth looking at the maternity package, they might not pay if you haven't been there long x

I had to tell work pretty early on, as I would help out with very physical parts of the job, as well as in the office. I am now fully office based, but I hear you - it is hard telling them. But you just have to bite the bullet my lovely. OnNaturesCourse is right, check out the maternity package first if you can. But, it is what it is and they cannot discriminate. Congratulations x

I had to tell my employer that I was pregnant a few months after I started. Actually I'd been pregnant when I started but hadn't realised. Then I came back from maternity leave and was pregnant again within a month . Just tell them if your job means you might be at some sort of risk.

I started a new job in Feb even though I got it back in Nov (had to give 3 months notice at old place) and had to tell new job that I'm 15 weeks and only been in the actual job 5 weeks... but work has been very supportive and ok but I do have a 6 month probation period I should just finish before maternity leave starts (I hope).

I was really nervous too but I felt a million times better once my boss knew as it meant the place I spend most time other than home that I didn't have to keep hold of a secret for weeks on end. It also will help you work out with your boss what you are entitled to re-maternity leave sooner rather than later but pregnancy shouldn't affect probationary period.

I was nervous about telling my manager too as I started in September, conceived in November, found out on Boxing day and had to tell my boss in early Jan as I got really bad morning sickness 😯. My boss was really lovely about it! You'll feel so much better once they know and you can stop worrying about it 😉x

I'm in the same position and haven't told them yet. I started as a temp in September, was taken on in permanently in December and conceived 2 weeks after that. I shouldn't be concerned as I'm HR!! I wrote the policies etc. and obviously know about discrimination, but I still feel like I'm dropping them in it. I just didn't expect it to happen so quickly after previous miscarriages
