Hi I have been booked in for my 12 week scan.
Last period 13 Feb .
I ovulated 4 the or 5th march, so quite late. That makes me around 2-3 weeks just now . (but docs take it from last period and say I'm 5-6 week) and have booked my scan accordingly.
Thing is I will be around 9weeks 2days max.. From when I ovulated.

Online it says the downs combined test , scan part, has to be done at 11weeks plus. . so when they realise I am not there yet will I get Re scanned nearer 12 weeks to do nuchal at right time? Or do I just not get offered it ?

Help appreciated. Thank you x

The count is from your period as doctor said. The 12 week scan is meant to be 12 weeks from your period. You are 5+2 today and will be 12 weeks on 8 May

Yes I get that as they count it the scan works as around the right time. But I thought the nuchal scan was only able to be done when baby was over 11(true) weeks formed.?

I was in this situation. I knew I was 'less' pregnant- they booked me in for another later scan. Hope that helps.

Thanks user. Was it only for nuchal you were re booked or was pregnancy too Early to date?

No, any count is the same one, always from your period. You will be 11 weeks by 1 May regardless of when you think you ovulated

They would re-scan you if it turns out you're at an earlier stage.

Tattybogle89 · 22/03/2017 20:46

Not necessarily? They adjust dates accordingly after 12week scan where you get your actual due date. Docs always use last period as they can't be sure when you conceived. I'm talking about the baby's actual amount of weeks since conception compared to datenfrom last period

My dates were wrong at my 12 week scan for both children due to irregular periods - one was measuring 11 weeks instead of 12 and one was measuring 8 weeks! They measure and if too small to do the checks they tell you when to rebook, and you reebok there and then. Easy, and you get to see baby again.

Thanks crunchyside. Wasn't sure if NHS would want to do two scans. Unless I tried to move scan date but don't know if possible. Excited either way Smile

Your pregnancy is dated from your last period, even if you have an idea when you ovulated, until the 12 week scan. After that they may the adjust the estimated due date. When I went for the 12 week scan it turned out I was only 10+4 or so, so they just booked another for me 2 weeks later.

Tattybogle89 · 22/03/2017 20:48

Thanks poison that's helpful. I'm re dates were out with my first baby too, but not by so much x

I turned up to my 12 week scan to find out baby was only 10 weeks. They just rebooked me for the bloods and another scan a few weeks later and it was fine! Star

arbrighton · 22/03/2017 20:51

they use last period for scan dating, not everyone is certain of when they ovulated.
As it happens, I was moved forward from 12+3 to 13+1, but i choose to trust their measurement as i don't know when i ovulated/conceived.

But the number of weeks you are is based on 40week pregnancy from lmp, just adjusted slightly

Thanks astorm x
