Hi, bit of a tricky one and I cant find what I need on google. I have been told that I will need to put any previous names (mine) on my child's birth certificate. Since I am divorced I dont really want to do this? Is this the case and if it is something they ask do I have to disclose it as I now go by my maiden name?

I could be wrong but from reading online it seems you only have to disclose your maiden name if you are married but as you have change back to your maiden name that means that's the only name you need to disclose. Don't hold me on that!

Say your name is Jane Smith

You marry and are now Jane Allen

You'd put Jane Allen

Maiden name Jane Smith.

If you married & are now divorced you'd put JANE SMITH because that is your maiden name & current name.

I'm in the same situation, I married but when I divorced I went back to my maiden name, so my married name won't go on the BC.

Thank you for your replies, that's put me at ease a bit, last thing I want is that name hanging over me! :-/

Ive had a name change and the registrar asked if I would like it on the cert however it isn't mandatory. I asked for it to be left off and it was no problem.

I was still in the process of divorcing when registering my babies birth, so legally still had married name. I had reverted to using my maiden name for most things (work/drs/maternity notes) I was advised by the registrar that you can use any name that you are known by to register the birth. I only have my maiden name on the certificate. No mention of my married name, although at the time this was my legal name.

(Was pretty confused by this myself at the time)

That is great to know, big weight off my shoulders now, thank you. :-)

That's great news 3littlemonkeys as I am in that situation and don't know if the final divorce paperwork will come through before I give birth Smile

I've been married twice. Changed my name the first time, then changed back to my maiden name and didn't change it again. Had DS with my second husband. My first married name isn't on my DS's birth certificate, just my surname and my DHs.

I am married but haven't taken my husbands name and don't intend to on a day to day basis, however on DCs birth certificate I am Luna Marriedname rather than Luna Lovepud and the registrar told me I could use either. My understanding is that you can use whichever name you want - just tell the registrar your maiden name... I'm assuming your ID is in your maiden name and not your married name?
