37wks and it feels like someone is shoving sharp knitting needles up my lady bits

Sorry for the slightly graphic title - I'm 37wks now with my second baby and a week or so ago I started getting these sharp stabbing pains up my vagina/cervix a couple of times a day. Now I'm getting them a couple of times an hour, and some of them really make me stop and catch my breath.

Anyone else get this? I mentioned it to my mw last week but she just nodded and said nothing more.

Sorry, don't have any pearls of wisdom for you, but if they are that painful I would definitely ring m/w or hospital and explain. It does sound like something's going on.

Could it be baby's head engaging? I remember with my first that was uncomfortable to the point of being very painful.

I got this towards the end with both of mine. Agree with squonk- possibly the baby dropping down? Has your bump visibly dropped too? I seem to remember my mw saying something about the babies head bouncing on my cervix.

It's really uncomfortable though isn't it. I remember having to stop walking in town once because of the pain and everyone stopping to stare at me terrified I was going to give birth there and then! Hope it eases up a bit for you soon.

I had this from 6m + Be walking and then exactly as you describe. I went 5 days over.

i'm getting this too at the moment - very uncomfortable! i totally sympathise? Also it KILLS when my baby moves now? Anyone else in pain EVERY TIME the baby moves? i mean EVERY TIME? not occasional painful movements. The movements appear to set off contractions here?

i didn't mean to put in 4,000,000 ???? question marks ????? whoops

greedyforbabies · 20/03/2007 15:30

ouch!

Lwatkins · 20/03/2007 16:06

I get this but I'm only 30+5 weeks pregnant with my first. I'm not sure what it is. It's the strangest type of pain to try to explain. It's very sharp and does make me catch my breath sometimes. It always feels like the baby's foot is directly kicking my fandango, if that makes sense? Very strange and sometimes painfull sensation!

Oh yes, you are describing the infamous "crotch zinger".

I had them from about 35 weeks iirc.

Several of my friends had them too, quite normal I think....but if you are worried, best to check with MW.
