Pregnancy with copper IUD

Hi,
I found out this week that I'm 5-6 weeks pregnant even though I had a copper coil put in last year. Obviously big shock as we have two children already.
When I went to the doctors they tried to remove the coil but it won't come free. Has anyone else been in this situation and continued with the pregnancy? The docs tell me there is a 50-60% chance of miscarriage so I am nervous about proceeding with the pregnancy.
Thanks

Hi. I know it's been a while and there have been no updates on this thread. I'm in the same situation. I'm now 9 weeks and they've tried to remove my coil twice but can't see the strings. They count at 5 weeks but wouldn't remove it then!

I got pregnant on the coil, they managed to remove it at about 7 weeks without prompting a miscarriage.

What have they said about next steps - will they try to remove it again?

Hi,

I’m 31 weeks with the coil still in - mine is stuck in my cervix, they think embedded in the wall (handy!). It hasn’t been problematic for my pregnancy really but I have had to ask for more regular scans and checks. I found this seemed to be taken more seriously after 12 weeks. At the moment it looks like they will operate a while after the birth if it doesn’t come out with the baby. They have scanned to keep an eye on where it is in relation to the baby.

Maybe ask your midwife if you can be referred to a consultant? Most people don’t seem to know a lot about it - but thus far everything has been well so I hope that’s reassuring!
