ANOTHER BABY NAME DILEMMA

We have just found out we are pregnant with our second child!!!! I have a name for a boy - Jack, but for a girl I am totally stumped, I always liked the name Amber, but I have gone off it recently, and quite like the name Tilly, but my husband doesn't like it, he quite likes the name Mia or Maya, and Grace has popped up a few times, but there are so many Graces' around. We wanted something a bit different for a girl. What do you think? Personally I quite like Tilly!

Bucketsofdynomite · 06/03/2007 09:54

Oh no, not Maya-Amber, people will pronounce it Mayaramber.

MrsBadger · 06/03/2007 09:57

why the hyphen, out of interest?
I think each alone is pretty but wouldn't use them together...

loopyredangel · 06/03/2007 10:32

Don't know why I put the hyphen in really! I agree Maya Amber doesn't have the same ring to it! Oh my goodness, what a decision to make. Amber Maya hmmmm, oh for god's sake, Maya Grace, AaRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i know a maya

loopyredangel · 06/03/2007 10:33

I'd better be having a boy!!!! Jack after DH's grandad! Nice and simple!

DetentionGrrrl · 06/03/2007 10:45

i love the name Jack, but i don't want my kids to have the same name as lots of other kids. And i can't think of another boys name i like.

MuminBrum · 06/03/2007 10:53

Maya is becoming really common among my friends and friends-of-friends - I know at least four without even thinking about it very hard.

loopyredangel · 06/03/2007 10:56

As if it's not hard enough to make a decision just found this site - there must be thousands of names on there - www.babynamesbase.com/boy-names-j-0.html

quietmouse · 06/03/2007 12:46

how are you proncouncing Maya? With an i sound or an a?

I know some Maya's too, so you may find she wouldn't be the only one.

If you want it with a hyphen, I think you should go for Maya-Grace, Maya-Amber doesn't go right together, imo.

honeyapple · 06/03/2007 12:54

Hiya,

My DD is called Matilda- we shorten it to Tilly or Tilda. Mostly she gets called Tilly at the moment. Her middle name is Honey (which her brother chose!).

It is also my middle name- but at school I HATED IT! I was SOOOO embarressed about it! Funny how it all changes!

ScottishThistle · 06/03/2007 13:49

I wouldn't go with Maya-Amber, names are very strange when the first & second end/begin with the same vowel!

Maya-Grace is lovely!

I love Ruth & Scarlett.

loopyredangel · 06/03/2007 20:41

Just found yet another name - Robyn - it has a lot of meaning as my DH's grandad gave a robin to his 2 daughters one christmas before he past away, and everytime we face a tough time a little robin tends to fly and sit in front of us, as if it's a message from DH's grandad saying everything will be okay!
Do I sound crazy?

OP posts:
katelyle · 06/03/2007 21:08

Why not spell it Robin?

loopyredangel · 06/03/2007 21:27

Because, Robyn is the girls spelling.

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 07/03/2007 08:37

I know two girls spelt Robin. Nothing is fixed these days!

lemonaid · 07/03/2007 08:52

I know more boys named Robin, though. Robyn is nice, and Robyn Oakley flows well.

loopyredangel · 07/03/2007 10:17

Do you want the good news?.......... Hubby loves it too!!!!! So I think we are settled at last, you watch we will end up having a boy!!! LOL

OP posts:
loopyredangel · 07/03/2007 10:25

I still love the name Maya, so I think it's going to be be Robyn Maya Oakley!!!!

OP posts:
ScottishThistle · 07/03/2007 10:45

Robyn's lovely!

Why not call your Son (if you have one), Robin instead of Hector???

loopyredangel · 07/03/2007 10:50

WE had already decided on Jack as a boy's name, after DH's grandad. Dare I ask why Hector?!?!?!?

OP posts:
ScottishThistle · 07/03/2007 10:51

Sorry must be another thread someone's decided Hector, I must keep up with threads!

quietmouse · 07/03/2007 11:22

good choice, loopy

Robyn is very nice, and also unusual so she should be the only one in her class! Goes well with middle and second names too.

katelyle · 07/03/2007 12:07

I love Robin, but I don't like Robyn as a spelling. I don't think it matters these days how you spell it. There was a girl called Robin with and i in the Chalet School books and they were written in the 1940s!

lemonaid · 07/03/2007 14:39

Wasn't that a nickname, though -- she was called "the Robin" for some reason that escapes me but her real name was something different?

[lemon belatedly realises that pretence of being a studious type who never read the Chalet School books is crumbling]

MrsBadger · 07/03/2007 14:57

that I know her name was really Cecilia ...
