HCG results more than doubling - indication of an issue?

After some bleeding at just 4 weeks (following positive test at 3 weeks) I had HCG bloods taken. Today's have shown my HCG has more than doubled with Fridays being 357 and today's being 981 (about).

The lady who phoned me to say the consultant would phone me as usually they would only expect me to be around 700 today.

Any ideas???

I have just read about higher HCG can indicate a female embryo...

I have never heard of a molar, having just looked now I think the results would need to be hugely up.

I don't know for sure re the female embryo thing but I can tell you that my HCG level when measured at 13 weeks was very high, double what it ought to have been at that stage and I AM carrying a girl so maybe there is summit in it!

As it happens - I also had the same as you, found out I was pregnant and then shortly after had some bleeding but all fine Hope it is for you too.

Sounds like a strong indicator there is more than one baby!

Congratulations on your pregnancy and I suspect they will offer you an early scan to do a quick head count!

Mine was sky high too, and yes...they were twins!

Some friends had twins recently and I have no idea how they still have the energy to breath!!!

Mine went up from 67 to 670 in 4 days so well over doubling every 48-72 hours. Only one baby in there and I don't know if it's a boy or girl yet only a few weeks to go.

just thought I would share my experience.

I had my bloods done every 48 hours from weeks 3.5 to 5 weeks following 2 previous mc. they started pretty low at around the 60 mark but 48 hours later were 390 then 990 at the next one. I did worry as realised this was over double but midwife seemed pleased with it.
anyway just over 13 weeks now. did have some more scares down the line but scan shows baby is doing well and there is definitely only 1!!
