Can progesterone hide a miscarriage?

I'm majorly anxious just to put that out there! I should be coming up for 8 weeks but an early scan on Friday put me at 6+ weeks no heartbeat found but sonographer wasn't worried as everything was measuring as it should although she didn't mention a yolk sac.

I'm using progesterone due to previous miscarriages and had some spotting yesterday although none since so could plausibly say it's the progesterone, I've changed where I put it so hopefully it won't happen again.

My pregnancy symptoms are disappearing, my nipples are still tender but no other signs this morning.

Could the progesterone be hiding a miscarriage? I have to wait till Friday for a repeat scan.

I'm so sorry you're going through this uncertainty. I have a history of recurrent miscarriages, and have used progesterone in pregnancy before, including one that miscarried. I started the progesterone as soon as I got my BFP at 4 weeks, but when subsequent tests started to fade I was told to have a blood test to confirm MC. I contacted my consultant and he advised to continue to take the progesterone until blood test confirmed MC or I started bleeding. He said the progesterone may delay the bleeding, but if the pregnancy had failed the MC and bleeding would be inevitable at some point. Once the blood test confirmed the MC at 5 weeks, I stopped the progesterone and started bleeding 3 days later.

I do feel the progesterone delayed the bleeding but I think you must continue to take it until your scan as there may not be any need to stop. Hang on to the fact that the sonographer does not seem overly concerned. And if you have been inserting vaginally it could have caused the spotting. (I found alternating rectally and vaginally was best).
