Is 37 weeks too late for baby shower

My DM is organising a baby shower for me - I'm really not that bothered overall as I don't really like being in the centre of attention and she would like to invite family I don't really know that well so just feels a bit wrong them buying me gifts. Now she's deciding on a date that'll make me nearly 37 weeks (currently 29) - won't I be very uncomfortable at that point that I won't even be able to enjoy it?

I was fine, mine was 38 weeks but then I didn't find pregnancy uncomfortable at all

Waitingonasmile · 28/02/2017 21:41

I had a 2 week old by then so wouldnt haven't worked for me Grin. Always the possibility baby will come by then but you'd probably by fine.

Should be fine...you can always have a baby shower after the baby is born too. I was okay at 38 weeks, but every pregnancy is different.

harleysmammy · 01/03/2017 00:19

Mine is supposed to be at 37 weeks but i found out today theres quite a high risk of me going early so 37 weeks is a bit risky for me haha. If you dont feel comfortable then just say, im sure she wont mind bringing it forward x

ScarletSienna · 01/03/2017 00:22

I had a three week old by then. You may not be uncomfortable due to pregnancy, you may be in labour.

MinnieNoush · 01/03/2017 19:37

I will be 37 weeks when I have mine. Can't wait.

bobbis · 01/03/2017 19:42

I'm currently 36 weeks, being induced next week and having a baby shower on Sunday...both induction and shower very last minute plans! I'm not actually feeling that uncomfortable. I was like you and really didn't want one but now I'm kind of looking forward to it

NennyNooNoo · 01/03/2017 20:06

Are you uncomfortable now? If not, there's no reason why you should be at 37 weeks. I was still working and commuting by train at 37 weeks. I didn't find it uncomfortable at all.

Nursey1984 · 01/03/2017 20:07

I had my baby shower at 36 weeks. I was still working full time so not massively uncomfortable, I had such a lovely afternoon so would have been distracted from that anyway. However I also had a baby in my arms by the time I would have been 37 weeks..........

NoArmaniNoPunani · 01/03/2017 20:10

I had my baby at 35 weeks so it might be a bit late

mistermagpie · 01/03/2017 20:14

I was still working at 37 weeks in my last pregnancy and will be this time too, so are most people to be honest, so I expect going to a party would be fine at that point!

jadeyty · 01/03/2017 20:20

Thanks for your replies. I am not incomfortable now - pregnancy has been relatively easy for me. It's just my first pregnancy so don't know what to expect! It is not uncomfortable after head engages?

I went to 40 weeks and was fine

mistermagpie · 01/03/2017 22:03

Can't answer about the head engaging because DSs didn't until I was in labour, but what do you plan to be doing at this party? The one shower I've been to was mainly people sitting about chatting and drinking tea, opening presents etc, it's not as if there was dancing or anything.

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 02/03/2017 07:43

I could have managed it at that point. If you're worried, why not bring it forward by a few weeks?

NennyNooNoo · 02/03/2017 13:53

Jade, I think most people aren't aware when the head engages. It doesn't feel noticeably different. You should be fine. Good luck!
