Hi everyone,

Am 18 weeks pg and this movement thing is getting me concerned. I may be just being impatient.

This is my second pregnancy. DD is 4. Her pregnancy seems a long time ago. I have since started to work in a gynae ward and see all the bad cases of pregnancy and very few good ones.

I work hard during the day and don't feel the baby move - I have felt small kicks and movement. When I get home tho it does move so I presume I am just so busy at work I don't feel it. Others tell me if the baby is facing my back I won't feel those kicks.

My question is at what point will I feel the baby move the 10 times a day I'm meant to feel later on and should I be feeling it move more than I am?

I have my 20 week scan next week and think I will have driven myself mad by then.

I think as long as you are feeling some movements this is ok. Obviously when you are on the go and busy you will not be as aware of them as you are when you are relaxing. I know all three of mine chose to become active as soon as i laid down just to make sure that i couldn't get to sleep!!!

I'm sure the 10 times a day thing is once you get into your third trimester - but if you are still worried next week mention it at the scan.

Alternatively my midwife always told me to call if there was something worrying me - would yours mind??

I would'nt worry too much as long as baby is making movements. I am 37wks now and in the earlier stages he didn't seem to move during the day at all, it was all morning and at night . I think the sleeping awake stages change throughout pregnancy and you may find that by week 20+ baby has a different one.

Everyone is different anyway. I felt all my dc moving at under 17 weeks pg, whereas my friend Sara who only has a dd didn't feel anything until she was 24 weeks pg. I think massagemum is right and it is in the third trimester. You probably will notice them mostly at night when relaxing or trying to get to sleep (dd1 used to keep me awake with hiccups in utero for weeks on end!)

With baby no.2 I felt movements from 14w then worried myself sick because with baby no3 I didn't feel any movements until 19+w and then only occassionally. I was told that the 10 movements a day thing only came into effect after 28weeks. I would say that if you are feeling any movements at all at this stage then things are fine.

Agree with others i had v similar experience with dd whilst ds kicked all the time. I think 10 movements a day is for the third trimester
