Gestational sac size

Can anybody tell me if they had a scan between 4-6 weeks what there gestational sac (mean) size was? thanks xxxxxx

At 6 weeks it seemed teeny! Think the sonographer said it was the size of a seed. 6 weeks later the baby is measuring 6cm and resembles a baby. Have you had an early scan?

I had an early scan. No heart beat but measuring around 5 weeks just over which is about right. Sac measured 5.33mm just worrying this pregnancy isn't developing properly.

I had lots of early scans with dd due to recurrent miscarriage so I've just dug out the scan reports, 5 weeks 1 day (my dates said 6 weeks 1 day) the sac (mean) was 14.3 mm. Hope that helps

Ohhh, where you actually 6 weeks then?
I am 5 weeks 1 day. And it's only 5.33mm. I've seen online that 5 weeks should be between 6-8mm? The midwife didn't say she was concerned about the size. Sometimes I feel if you aren't past 8 weeks they don't care that much

I had an early scan last Friday when by my period date I was 7+3 but the scan showed baby at 6+2 and measuring 6.11mm. However the lady doing the scan did say that at this stage the machine can be a couple of mm out and that would drastically change the date of the baby, plus at that tiny size the measurements aren't going to be 100% accurate If the person didn't say that they're worried about the size then I wouldn't be either xx

Sorry, just re-read, that was size of bubba, not sac. Sonographer didn't measure the sac but saw a heartbeat so felt all was ok x

I had one at 4 weeks and nothing was visible. At 5 weeks it was about 2mm. 6-8mm seems big to me, they weren't worried at the 5 week one but they did stress it was early and normal (Sadly I did miscarry later).

I should add they only saw a sac at the 5 week scan. I found this reassuring:

They just went off their dates but as it happens dd was born 17 days early so was nearer to my own dates than theirs. It does seem like they aren't bothered,I was anxious because of my history and the fact I was behind what I thought I was but they were so blasé about it, it's an everyday thing for them I suppose but it isn't to us.

I'm just super paranoid because I had a miscarriage in November at 11 weeks. And I don't think I can go through all this excitement to be told this time my baby didn't even make it past 5 weeks! I had a scan with the baby I lost at 5 weeks 4 days and saw a flicker of a heart beat but this time nothing. And now I don't get to have a scan until I'm 12 weeks! How can I wait that long! Going to the 12 week scan and baby hasn't grown since 5 weeks! ( also with my miscarrage I had no bleeding I just knew something was wrong and pestered then to scan me for two days! I may get a follow up scan in 2 weeks time. At the moment I have zero symptoms which is not normal for me, my nipples are sore that is it! If I have I symptoms in a week I think I'll know something isn't right! Not even stretching pains!!! Ahhhhhh 😩

5w4 days is really early for a heartbeat though! You wouldn't normally see one that early, they usually say 6 weeks is the earliest. And at 5w1 it's really encouraging that you've seen a 5mm sac.

Would you be in a position to pay for a private scan at 8 or so weeks maybe? You should get to listen to the heartbeat at booking in which would be something at least.

Are they monitoring HCG levels with blood? Try not to set too much store by symptoms because they can vary SO massively at this stage.

There is a really supportive pregnant after miscarriage thread somewhere around here, the ladies there are so nice and definitely understand the fear.

So I had first scan at 4w6 days and gestational sac mean was 9.3 mm, but my date was adjusted to 5 days on 12 w scan so it might be possible my dates were a bit off. Didn't they ask you to come back in 2 weeks? If not you might just ask your midwife or gp to send you again. I think it should be then when you see heartbeat. Meanwhile do try not to stress and best of luck to you and your little bean!

I know how you feel I had 4 mc and was convinced it was going to happen again, I was lucky that I got a scan every week until 12 weeks. Its still early for symptoms I know it's hard not to analyse everything but try and relax if you can, if there was no heartbeat visible yet they might offer you a follow up scan. I'll keep my fingers crossed everything goes ok

Wow thanks everybody for your input! I feel a lot better. I'm so upset they haven't arranged a follow up scan in 2 weeks just to confirm it's viable. I am so scared of going to my 12 week appointment to have bad news! I can pay for a private so that's definitely an option. I think I will phone my doctor and ask to have a follow up appointment because of my miscarriage.

My twins were just 3.5/3.3mm at 6 weeks and 2 days so they were on the small size for my stage of pregnancy at the time but they were normal size by 12 weeks. I think you should ask your doctor to arrange a reassurance scan, especially if it will put your mind at rest. Were you discharged as a viable pregnancy? I also would not worry if you don't really have symptoms yet, although I did get symptoms early they were very mild at 5 weeks compared to how they were 3 weeks later when they ramped up.
