Hi everyone. I'm 38 weeks plus 2 days (first pregnancy) and am having quite painful stomach cramps which feel a bit like when you get food poisoning, that gripey, clenching feeling. I also feel a bit nauseous and very tired. I doubt it's labour as I haven't had any other symptoms such as the show/mucus plug or waters breaking and the cramps don't feel regular so they're presumably braxton hicks. They're just stronger than I've felt previously.

My best friend has organised a baby shower for me today and friends are coming from different parts of the country. I'm getting a lift there and back and will put my hospital bag in the car. I'm just a bit nervous I suppose and looking for some reassurance!
Thanks in advance.

It could be early labour - you don't necessarily get all those other symptoms. Braxton hicks tend to go away if you have a drink and move around - real contractions don't.

Where is the baby shower - will you be able to sit comfortably and not wear yourself out? Are you far from the hospital if needed?

It could be a good distraction though, to spend sometime with your friends and not sit at home concentrating on what may or may not be happening.

They seem to have eased off a little. I will be able to sit and rest but I won't be that near the hospital. Thanks for advice.
