I am due on on monday, but I brought some cheap tests from ebay and they are showing a faint postive, within 3 minutes. Can it be wrong? If they are cheap can the result be wrong?
am a regular but changed my name as Dh doesn't want everyone knowing yet.

just because its a cheap test doesnt mean its unreliable. Think you can get a false negative but not a false positive.

JodieG1 · 28/02/2007 21:24

I would say a positive result will be right if the line stays there. I had a false positive once but after a minute or so the line gradually disappeared. I know the line was there and I didn't imagine it because I showed dh and he saw it too.

www.peeonastick.com/ has probably everything you need to know about pregnancy tests!

amum1 · 28/02/2007 21:26

line is still there from this morning

I brought a "cheap" one from local shop, and got very faint line, was not sure so went and brought clear blue and showed positive straight away. Go buy another test and good luck

in my 1st pregnancy i bought a cheapie and had a very faint +

i went and bought a clearblue a few hours later and it was def +

SlightlyMadScientist · 28/02/2007 21:49

Cos of the way they work flase negative is possible. False Positive is v unlikely.

It is only cheap cos it doesn't say clearblue or whatever on the front. They all work basically the same way.

Congratulations. I think you are preg!!!

JodieG1 · 28/02/2007 21:50

The problem I had with my false positive happened to others as well and is on the paos website.

amum1 · 28/02/2007 21:53

I will be truthful, I have done 5 tests and they all have a postive line, so can I safely say I am pregnant?

SlightlyMadScientist · 28/02/2007 21:56

Particularly stong or early positives could be an iidcation of a multiple pregancy you know . My positive came up within about 1min!!!

amum1 · 28/02/2007 21:58

noooooooo don't say that!! lol

OP posts:
SlightlyMadScientist · 28/02/2007 22:00

As long as the postive was as per the instructions (i.e. appears with 10(?)mins, doesn't disappear quickly...) I would say you are pregnant!!!

amum1 · 28/02/2007 22:02

I have had sore boobs since last week, and I am really tired. I did ovulate early this month (I get ovulation pains) at about day 10-11.

OP posts:
amum1 · 28/02/2007 22:03

yes it appeared within 3-4 minutes, the instructions say 10 minutes.

OP posts:
amum1 · 28/02/2007 22:03

and the lines are still there, I keep looking at them, wondering!!

The reason some show better than other is the more costly one, normally need less of the hormone level to detect it. I would say in likely hood you are preggy by maybe to be sure buy a clearblue or something simular tomorrow. Lisa

misdee · 28/02/2007 22:05

i;d say you were pregnant.

MrsMar · 28/02/2007 23:24

sorry to hijack thread amum, but now I'm worried... slightlymadscientist, is that true about the multiple thing? I'm 10+5 but when I tested about 2 days after af was due I got a really strong positive the second the pee hit the stick (sorry if tmi) and has stayed there until now (first baby, v.sentimental about everything!) I haven't had any scans yet, so I'm terrified of a multiple for first. Esp as dh has said if we have twins we won't need to have another baby, but I'd like to give birth twice ifyswim, even if it means having three kids.

I haven't had major m/s, just a bit of nausea, so I thought I'd got away with it, as far as I know we've only had one set of twins on my mums side of the family (her fathers brother and sister were twins) but I always had a gut instinct that I'd have twins, would just rather it wasn't first time.... roll on next thurs for my scan!!!

SlightlyMadScientist · 01/03/2007 13:53

I was semi-serious - but primarily trying to wind amum1 up!!!

Twins usually produce more hCG the hormone the preg test monitors), so you would expect to get a stronger result sooner. With modern tests where you can get a positive 3days before AF they are v senesitive - so the later you test after this date the stronger your result will be anyway.

I am sure it will be fine....but then Non-identical twins on your mothers side....another risk factor...oh and I had worse m/s with DD3 (singleton) than DTDs where I only had a bit of mild nausea....

I don't think you can really tell without that scan. You must report back now....

nh101 · 01/03/2007 14:55

Mrs Mar I wouldn't worry - I think it is if you get a really strong positive three or four days before your period is due that the hormones are strong. My GP said you will feel more symptoms if it is twins but my friend had twins and she had no symptoms at all! DH will come round anyway...

ShowOfHands · 01/03/2007 14:58

Cheap tests are as reliable as expensive ones usually. They just don't have the brand and the fancy packaging.

I tested positive after ovulating on day 11, 5 days before my period was due. Strong line within 30 seconds.

It is a singleton pregnancy!

amum1 · 01/03/2007 15:00

so because I had a postive line 6 days before my period was due I could be having twins!!!!

OP posts:
amum1 · 01/03/2007 15:01

thanks SOH, I did ovulate on day 10-11.

OP posts:
jdd0709 · 01/03/2007 15:37

I had the cross come up minute it hit the stick day period due and a few days later (plus a week or two later with my first - still didn't believe it and have all 13 tests I did to this day! (cleaned)) and both times only single pregnancy, confirmed at 6 week scans, so don't necessarily worry about twins!
