I am due on on monday, but I brought some cheap tests from ebay and they are showing a faint postive, within 3 minutes. Can it be wrong? If they are cheap can the result be wrong?
am a regular but changed my name as Dh doesn't want everyone knowing yet.

I have done 3 tests being 10 days late all neg never happened to me with other 3 kids, body telling me I am but just dont know any more. I am 41 dont know if my age has got something to do with it HELP

Can I just say that when I made the original comment about twins I was trying to tease amum1.

Even if you didn't test positive until 6 days after AF was due you could still be having twins!!!

What I was trying to say is that the over the counter preg tests give a yes/no preg or not preg result...Loads of things can affect the strength of the result - how many days you are pregant (i.e when you ovulated), how concentrated your urine is, how many babies there are etc, etc........

There is only one definitive way to tell that there are 2 babies at this stage and that is a scan...

honestly don't get yourself stressed by it all there is likely to be more hormone in a twin pregnancy but a preg test is not designed to say how much hormone there is.

I would give it another couple of days and then see a GP. They may be able to offer a blood based pregancy test which may be more accurate/sensistive.

thinkingaboutno4at41 - I had spectacularly long cycle when I was 35, completely out of the blue, usually clockwork regular, then had a period a fortnight later than usual. Nothing about that period was different to make me think it might have been a miscarriage, no unusual stress that might have accounted for it, and plenty of opportunity to have become pregnant

I was using Persona at the time, and had been for at least a year. Kept getting the green light telling me it was okay not to use contraception. I'll never know why there was a one-off cycle like that (this was nine years ago)and I haven't had an early menopause. Decided later the same year that we would ttc and were successful the first month! My periods have been a nightmare for the past couple of years, so I have had long cycles since, but it sounds like what you are experiencing now was similar to me then.

Could it be that your hormones and mind are playing tricks on you, that the breast tenderness/tiredness/etc could be premenstrual symptoms?

The pregnancy tests these days seem to be so accurate that if they say negative then you aren't pregnant. Hth.

did another test today about 1 hour ago and got a stronger line

I used cheap ebay tests and they were more accuate than shop bought ones
I'm 37 wks now

amum1 · 01/03/2007 17:48

these are the dip ones, very small.

OP posts:
amum1 · 01/03/2007 18:10

it was these ones

Piffle · 01/03/2007 18:14

oh yes her tests work
before any others
trust me
I have the stretchmarks and bump to prove it!

amum1 · 01/03/2007 18:18

lol, they are very good, and very cheap. I did want to get a clear blue one today, but then thought 'why waste money on an expensive one' when these ones are showing postive.

NAB3 · 01/03/2007 18:20

It's actually the other way round. If it is a multiple pregnancy it is more likely to say negative as the test doesn't recognise the extra hormones.

amum1 · 01/03/2007 22:50

I lost a baby last year, will the EPU see me now to check my HCG levels?

OP posts:
NAB3 · 02/03/2007 09:32

They should. Exaggerate the symptoms if you need too. That is what happened with me but it was the midwife who exaggerated them to get me seen asap.

trace2 · 02/03/2007 09:40

congrats! same tests i used now 25 weeks pg i used 20 to see if they worked one or two every day till line got stronger lol, i kept a clearblue to use after all the 20 i used but dropped down loo befor i got to use

LieselVentouse · 02/03/2007 09:41

If theres a line - even if its just a faint line its a positive I would say. I would go to your EPU
Congratulations

Aloveheart · 02/03/2007 09:43

Congratulations

ShowOfHands · 02/03/2007 09:45

Oh yes, they're the tests I used too! And I am currently 29/30wks pregnant.

Congratulations.

PS. I'd had a miscarriage before this pg too so was sent for an early scan.

Good luck to you...

Stop wasting your money on preg tests and start buying some maternity clothes

ale233 · 02/03/2007 17:37

Hi, I did a pregnancy test around the middle of January which was negative. I did another one last week which was positive. I saw the midwife yesturday who thinks I am at least 12 weeks pregnant!!! Obviously the test in January was wrong. I'm waiting for a scan on monday to confirm the dates.

staceym11 · 02/03/2007 17:47

you can't get a false positive, you should have believed it the first time (says she who tested twice with both of her dcs!) and saved your money!

congratulations and good luck!

staceym11 · 02/03/2007 17:48

oh and i did wonder about what morrisons thought of you doing a test in the middle of the shop

amum1 · 02/03/2007 17:50

I know I know, but the cheap ones were only £5, so didn't feel guilty about spending £8 today lol!! Have made an appointment with the GP for next monday.
