questiom for those who take or taken clexain injection?

did they give you some thing to put used injections in?? ive put in a jar but what do i do with when full??

Hi trace2 - I have to do these too. Twice a day. Horrible. No, they didn't give me anything to put the used needles in. I asked lots of times (even the hospital pharmacy wouldn't give me one!). I eventually got my doctor to get me one. However, this soon filled up and no pharmacies nearby will dispose of it so it is sitting in my kitchen waiting to be taken to the hospital! In the meantime other used needles are stacking up. I confess to putting some of them in the bin (with their tops put securely on them so they can't damage anyone).

My bf was given a yellow sharps container with her first two weeks supply-when full she has to take it back to the hospital to be emptied.
Think you should speak to whoever prescrbed them and insist....

My local council supplies my sharps bin and when I need it emptied I just ring them and they come and swap the full one for an empty one (all free). Try ringing the Environmental Health dept of your council and see if they do a sharps bin collection service. I am diabetic so use a lotta needles but also used clexane thru and post-pregnancy.

Whoooosh is right, whoever prescribed should supply suitable safe disposal container. They are required to under all sorts of health and safety leglislation and guidance within health care.

Your GP is another place to get sharps bins, and they can also be returned here for disposal.

Some primary care trusts arrange delivery and collection of such containers.

Or some councils do the same.

I would go to the prescriber first and ask is it ok if you throw the used needles in the household waste. This should get some sort of reaction and hopefully they will assist you in your quest of disposing of these needles safely.

My GP surgery gave me a huge sharps bin which has lasted me since I've been injecting at 9 weeks (I'm now 29 weeks). I also get a small one most times at the hospital pharmacy when I get my new supply. I will return the big one back to my surgery when its full.
