I am 7wks PG & the Dr I recently saw weighed me then coughed and muttered something that its not surprising I am putting on weight & then went on to lecture that its a myth that I have to eat for 2. I just nervously laughed
but ddnt mention I think I am eating for the whole of England!!!

I am just so hungry, i have all ready had eggs on toast, tea, sandwich & a bowl of cereal, big bowl of fruit and now thinking what I can eat next.....so how much r u eating???

I'm eating stacks. Too much chocolate too. Not very healthy. Guilt.

RedKennedy · 01/03/2007 10:24

Im convinced the amount of food consumed does not have any relation to the weight you put on.. every day Im eating:
6 pieces of fruit
Innocent smoothie
2 bits of grainy brown toast
Snack pack of mixed nuts
Yoghurt
Vegetable concotion with brown rice for lunch
Some kind of healthy chicken stirfry or fish & pasta for dinner
1 bar of chocolate

and Im 29 weeks and Ive put on almost TWO STONE. I was 68kg when I started and have just weighed myself and im 79kg. Im not at all bothered about it, and am only eating well for the sake of the lo, usually I would be drinking most of a bottle of wine an evening and eating crap, but its still staggering with such a healthy diet, that I can gain so much. On the other hand i do have SPD so am not as mobile as I had hoped to be at this stage. But the next 10 weeks for LO will be solid growing and so more solid weight gain... I do wonder what Im going to end up like! Im laughing now...

Also have already gone up a size in clothes even though I am careful what I eat..,.no choccy for me!!!!!

MejustMe · 01/03/2007 10:42

You'll probably find you are hungrier if you lots of eat sugary foods, as your blood sugar level will be up and down all the time. You need so many vitamins and minerals for you and baby that I don't think you can afford to eat empty calories like chocolate or crisps every day. Each to their own though - millions of healthy babies have been born after a diet of Mars bars!

I am eating loads more than before but was really strict with my diet before, eating only about 1,400 calories a day (but more at the weekend) and walking a couple of miles a day.

Now I make sure I have 2,000 calories a day and take a multivitamin plus calcium and magnesium and 1g vitamin C a day:
Porridge oats with 150g natural yogurt and 2tbsp mixed linseeds/sunflower/sesame/pumpkin seeds for breakfast.
wholemeal pitta with cottage cheese and salad for lunch
Fish and new potatoes or brown rice and steamed veg for tea
Snacks: 2 oatcakes with a slice of low fat cheese on
3 prunes
an apple
2 tangerines
a melon or a punnet of berries
Maybe a slice of wholemeal toast with Marmite or a bowl of All-Bran before bed if I am hungry

And LOTS of water! If you feel hungry you might actually be thirsty. Drink 2 litres at least a day. Hot water with lemon squeezed in is really nice!

I have put on 4lbs (I am 10+2) but was only 9st to start with which is on the low side of healthy (I am 5ft 6in)

Gingerbear · 01/03/2007 15:23

am 28 weeks - not much room and chronic heartburn.

breakfast - 1 slice toast & a yoghurt or fruit
lunch - soup and a sarnie or cooked meal in canteen at work
snack - bowl of cereal or fruit

dinner - something light - beans on toast, filled pitta bread or small portion of stir-fry/rice

I have put on 7lb, but was overweight to start with.

goldenpeach · 01/03/2007 17:08

They say it's around 200 extra cals a day. I was size 8-10 before and I'm now straining my maternity size 10 pants (which are huge, more like a normal size 18), but I have a big bump, only put a little bit of weight on arms and legs (the drawback is that I struggle carrying the bump and cannot stand up/walk for long periods).
When I get bored I munch away but the thing that stops me overeating (before and now) is that my digestion gets really dodgy and I bloat (painful wind and other lovely symptoms). As I'm at home I started baking cakes, at least I know what I put in them. A nice slice of cake or two keeps me away from chocolates and biscuits most of the time.
I don't count calories, though. I eat more fibre (in cereals) and fruit, eat dairy for calcium and take supplements (I alternate iron and pregnancy care tablets).
I'm 5' 2" and I'm now 64kg, there is a chart inside my maternity notes and I'm OK. All tests have been fine so far.
My mum ballooned when pregnant and then got heartburn, nasty digestion and varicose veins. I've inherited them and it's another reason not to pile too much weight.

bumperlicious · 01/03/2007 18:24

Too much! But I've decided to give up chocolate, cakes and ice cream for lent, just because I have eaten so badly for the past 6 months that I had to do something. It's been 8 days, 4 hours and 37 minutes so but I think it's going well .
Before being pg I used to eat so healthily and exercise but once the ms started I just had to eat whatever and was too ill to exercise. I'm 24 weeks and have put on 1.5 stone, which is a lot for someone who's only 5'2"!

Lolabelle · 01/03/2007 21:24

I'm 29 weeks and have put on 2.5 stone!! People keep saying i'm lucky as i've not put it on elsewhere but my baby only weighs 2.9 pounds so i must be wearing very flattering maternity clothes as naked i look a sight....

kwebek · 01/03/2007 21:37

I've put on 1/2 a stone so far (am 15+4) but had no morning sickness so 5lbs of that was put on in the first month after I found out and was comfort eating for eighteen not just two

The last week or so I've been trying to be better with my diet - loads of grilled meat and veg casseroles but all this talk of nutella has got me peckish.

LieselVentouse · 01/03/2007 22:18

Ive put on hee haw - thats the great thing about constant puking

Ceolas · 01/03/2007 22:28

I'm 15 weeks. Eating pretty much as normal. Have lost weight thus far but was overweight to start with.

Lolabelle · 02/03/2007 12:27

God this is making my 2 1/2 stone even more depressing!! Dreading losing weight after the birth...

Trying to eat healthily but usually follow it up with something sweet afterwards - get bored watching tv every night doing nothing so nibble all evening. My arse is repulsive..

LieselVentouse · 02/03/2007 12:57

Lolabelle it doesnt really matter. When I was PG with DD I gained five stone. Im just going to try not to do that again.

Holly29 · 02/03/2007 16:41

It's so strange - I was a size 8 my whole life and had quite small appetite and now suddenly I am eating more that I ever have. It is almost scary ay 11+1 actually. I was away for work this whole week and in the hotel restaurant every night I had to eat three courses ... plus snacks when I got back to my room. But hopefully it will die off...

nh101 · 02/03/2007 16:54

Lolabelle, have you tried eating dates? They are very sweet tasting (don't get the ones with a sugar coating though) and may satisfy your sweet tooth after meals. Also melon is good for that - I'll eat a whole one in front of the TV after dinner.

Southender · 02/03/2007 20:18

I am 9 weeks and have put on 11lbs, which seems a hell of a lot as I am normally quite a skinny minny. With my first I put on 2 stone 10lbs by the end, but when she came out she was only 6lb 13oz so the weight wasn't "all baby". I feel nauseous almost all day so I am eating lots, and though a lot of it is unhealthy(crisps, hot cross buns, primula cheese spread on crackers which is my massive craving), I am also eating at least 5 portions of fruit and veg each day and drinking lots of water. So it can't be all bad. Can it?

MejustMe · 02/03/2007 22:02

Reading all the posts again, made me chuckle thinking back to when I was having DS (now 8 yrs)I was a size 8, weighed 8 stone, and got lost if i stood sideways on lol. By the time I was 5 months gone I was only a size 14/16. but the last 2 months damn did i get HUGE lol I was wearing size 22 clothes!!!!!!!!!!! and i didn't eat much....i did however drink 4 pints of milk a day and as many cream cakes as i could lol.

MejustMe · 02/03/2007 22:03

ooppss forgot to add after i had ds, i was in a size 12 within 3 days....and he only weighed 6lb 7oz...so far from just all baby.... lets hope i don't get so big this time!!!!!

DetentionGrrrl · 03/03/2007 08:08

i was a small 12 before DS (8mths), and got back into my old jeans a few weeks ago. I am pregnant again, and have started to fill out quite quickly- jeans are rather tight already. I'm probably only 6wks gone (not had dating scan yet) but most things are making me nauseous, so when i find something that isn't making me want to hurl, i'm eating alot of it. So far, Activia yogurts and cheese and piccililli sarnies are alright.

Am going to start walking the dog a few times a week to keep my fitness up (and hopefully stop me ending up a right bloater!)

Jamantha · 03/03/2007 08:46

I feel I've put on more than I ahould at 21 weeks. I was quite overweight to start with (but had lost nearly 6 stone last year, so in a better posistion than I could have been) and in first 12 weeks ate loads of crisps to combat nausea and since Xmas have been absolutely massively ravenous. Trying to eat at least some healthy stuff, but boy it's hard. Saw my reflection last night and nearly cried! Just consoling myself that I can lose weight again afterwards, and that as the OTT hunger is calming down a bit, if I use a little willpower to choose healthier options I may be able to slow this weight gain down a bit (though not expecting to lose any). Am worried that dr's appointment in a few weeks time will end up with me being frowned at though, or find some complications brought on by my weight
