cervical cerclage

Hi, I'm 14+4 weeks. And just been for my cervix measured this afternoon due to LLETZ procedure 18months ago. It measures 1.8cm so they are putting a stitch in next week. Obviously I am slightly worried about the procedure and the outcome. Has anyone else had this done?

Hi Lauren i have had 2 lletz treatments and am having my cervix measured every 3weeks but it's been ok so far so I have no experience of it but there is a "short cervix club" thread in the ante natal section that may be helpful to you.

I have had one in an emergency. They thought it was too late for baby. They put it in anyway and I had lots and lots of bed rest. All was well. Im typing this as I feed my lovely girl.

Morning, yes, I have! I'm 26+4 today and had a cerclage put in at 15 weeks as my cervical length was shortening and was 2.5cm at that time. I've had it put in as a preventative measure as I lost a little girl in December 15 at 20 weeks due to suspected weak cervix, possibly due to birth trauma with my 4 year old :( happy to provide as much information as you need, I wasn't given much notice for mine and was very anxious, but had a spinal anaesthetic and it only took 10 minutes max (spent more time waiting and being prepped than actually being stitched!) I had some mild cramps and light bleeding for a few days, which is expected, and had a uti a few days afterwards, but it has been a lifesaver, literally, as recent scans have shown the stitch has shifted which means it was needed, so we would have lost this little girl too if I hadn't had it done. I would say my anxiety was worse than the actual reality oft he procedure, and it is definitely working for me. My consultant has said to try and forget it's there, bit not to lift anything too heavy, and no trampolining of course! There are obviously risks with any procedure in life, but planned (elective) cerclages are are more effective than emergency ones I've heard, so this sounds like a good decision. Xx

Thank you so much for your replys! Really helps! I am anxious of the outcome. It's my first baby and all unknown! So glad to hear positive outcomes and sorry for your loss JOMH! They would have done it yesterday if the correct doctors were about but they decided Monday would be the better option. On the internal scan my cervix looked short and fat. She said it was chunky now I'm worrying incase it's open and when they do the examination before surgery on Monday they will cross a problem! Think it's natural for all these things to go through your head isn't it!

Absolutely natural to worry. Just get lots of rest this weekend if you can. The success rate of this procedure is very good. I've been lucky that I'm not in bed rest and I'm still at work, just not walking far orbdping housework. Wishing you all the best for Monday :) xx

We had lost our first girl at 21 weeks. The cerclage was nerve wracking but worked.

Rest lots, relax if you can, drink lots of water and wait for your baby cuddles ladies. They will come. X

Hello! Thank you for thinking of me! Yes all went well very straight forward they did the McDonald stitch-had a spinal block and the whole procedure took less than 35 mins. Doing the anesthetic took longer than the stitch its self.
Just achy now and sore. Back at work tomorrow hoping will be okay. It's more my hips that are aching. The nurse said I'm so small and doc has big hands so I will be sore 🙈 But glad the procedure went to plan! Do you have baths? I've not been told to go on bed rest either just use my common sense and take it easy. Thanks again x
