Congratulations!

Make sure you have a drink before the midwife arrives as you'll need to give a pee sample. Also be prepared to have blood taken. It is also worth asking the father if there is any family history of medical stuff you need to be aware of.

Hope that helps ☺

Congratulations!
There will be a lot of form filling in, MW will ask you lots of questions about your medical history and baby's dad's history too. You'll need to do a wee sample, have your blood pressure taken and sometimes a blood test. You might also get weighed.
You'll then be given a pack with your maternity notes in and in my area we get a Bounty pack with some info and vouchers.

Sorry to disappoint but I'm pretty sure mine was a lot of paperwork and absolutely nothing else.... Family medical history will be needed.

Oysterbabe · 06/02/2017 14:31

It is just paperwork and bloods I still found mine exciting, like I was a proper pregnant person :)

Jellybabie3 · 06/02/2017 14:37

Thats how i will feel i think oysterbabe. I feel very grown up today (and i am 30 lol) i have just had to buy my first non wired bra as my boobs feel like they may explode and geez i feel like im now actually 60yrs hahaha (they are not pretty are they)

MumBeth · 06/02/2017 15:36

You should be excited, it was for me on my first appointment. Was so lovely to meet my midwife who answered all my questions and explained to me the whole process of being pregnant and what contact I'll have with her and the hospital team.

Jellybabie3 · 06/02/2017 15:50

Its my first appointment too 😀

There are a lot of medical history factors to go into - knowledge of blood pressure issues etc

Questions about mental health, drinking, smoking

Height and weight for BMI for various risk factors

THey ahve to ask you about domestic violence

ConvincingLiar · 06/02/2017 19:59

Mine was tedious with lots of hanging around, but not unpleasant. Good indicator of the rest of midwife care really. Take a book.

Lorrie3188 · 06/02/2017 20:51

I filled in forms prior to going which were quite a few pages long with details about my medical history, family, and the fathers'. Seemed somewhat pointless as we went through every answer as she put it into the computer.
We discussed which scans and tests I would like to have, flu jab, and general health.
Had bloods taken to test for HIV etc. Weight and BMi checked.
She also asked where I wanted to give birth which I was totally unprepared for being that I was only 9 weeks pregnant!

stepmum88 · 06/02/2017 21:25

So glad I found this post! Sorry for butting in- am 6+5 and have my booking in app next tues. do you need to take anything??

Lorrie3188 · 06/02/2017 22:03

Not unless they have told you to fill anything out prior to attending :)

ConvincingLiar · 06/02/2017 23:10

If you have a sample pot I'd take some wee.

Jellybabie3 · 07/02/2017 10:40

So i have had my booking and you were of course right....i felt like i was on mastermind with the specialist subject being mine and my partners medical history! A little underwhelming (i shouldnt have expected a celebratory parade) but glad to be booked in Smile thats box one ticked. Mine was all done in 35mins
