Hello all,

I am a new member and me say just how relieved I was to find a website like this. I'm over the moon after browsing through messages and now knowing that no question is ever silly and that we all share such similar concerns. I hope some of you will be able to help me out on this one. Went for a scan as my AFP level was a bit high. After a VERY thorough scan I was told that both uterine artery Dopplers appeared notched and that the placenta appears thick with lakes. They may as well have spoken to me in Chinese ... and then I was told not to worry!! I am 18 weeks pregnant and will be scanned again in 4 weeks. Any of you had this problem? What does it mean and what can it mean for the remainder of the pregnancy?

TIA,
Fatnhap

hi fatnhap, I have no idea what they are on about, but someone will have....hang in there!

Tissy · 23/06/2004 17:22

here 's something about lakes!

Blu · 23/06/2004 17:40

If you google 'uterine artery dopplers' you get lots of good explanations of what a doppler scan is. If you google 'notched uterine artery doppler' you get very complicated papers that require the translation skills of one of our more scientific MN-ers!
Fatnhap: if they've told you stuff you don't understand, don't be afraid to ring your MW and ask if she can explain, or find out for you.

And Tissy IS a 'scientific MN-er'! If they told you not to wotty, you almost certainly don't have to! Were they saying all this amongst themselves, pointing it out as a feature or characteristic as a way of teaching a student?
