Anyone with less than a years age gap between babies?

Hi, I'm new to mumsnet and have just found out that I'm pregnant. My due date is 1st March 2005. My daughter is currently 3.5 months old.

Just wondering if there are any mums around with such a small gap between babies and how they are coping.

This pregnancy was planned and both myself and my husband are delighted, but didn't think that it would happen quite so soon.

Wow PreggieMum - congratulations! No experience of this myself but I'm expecting my first and we'd love a small age gap if we have another so I look forward to seeing the responses. Good luck!

My DH and his sister are only 13mths apart. My PILs said they could cope because my FIL worked as a teacher and so was home at lunch time (v short hours here in germany) and then he helped through till both were in bed and then did his work for the next day.

I think I heard yesterday that Claudia Schiffer is 4mths along with the 2nd, so that must be pretty close too I guess.

Congrats! I have been trying for 4mths with no result - but then I only got AF back when DS was 10mths (breast fed till 16mths) and my DH isn't home that much. Send some baby dust my way.

We really wanted a small age gap too. We took over a year to conceive our daughter so we were kind of shocked that I'm pregnant this time after only 1 month of trying!

It's still early days, so we haven't told family & friends yet. It's lovely to talk online though.

There is only 12 months between me and my bro and we are very close. Mum didnt plan it but thought she couldnt get PG when BFing!!

A friend of mine has twingirls of 9 months and has just found out she is PG again and is gutted! She only ever wanted one!! Her gap will be 14 months......how she will cope I do not know.

Hi preggiemum one of my best friends has recently had her second baby, and her first has just turned 1 year. She is overjoyed but does say it is time consuming and she is forever feeding or changing nappies! She says it is hard work initially but will be lovely later on as they grow up together.

AussieSim - Yes, I think you're right. Support from my husband will be key. I'm quite lucky as he is self employed so could take a month or 2 off or work shortened hours for the first couple of months.

Collision - how did you get on with your brother when you were a child? Just wondering if a closer age gap means less arguments. (My sister and I have a 7 year age gap, we get on brilliantly now, but used to argue a lot when we were both younger and drove my mum mad. My Husband has a smaller age gap with his sister - 2 years and they have always got on brilliantly)

I was his extra Mummy and did everything for him inc feeding him jelly! he was my dolly!! i was also very bossy and would drop my shoe for him to pick up.......which he did!! No probs at all. Still pretty close now.

preggiemum congratulations!! i have 3 children under 4 and a half. Although it is hard work, its lovely to see how well they have bonded being so close. I love it!!! Would have another on tomorrow if I though i could manage!

I know a woman with 10 months between her first and second, and about 2 years between second and third. She seems to cope better than I do with 4, and bigger age gaps.

There are 15mths between my older sister and I. I was totally unplanned and my Mum didn't go to the GP until she was nearly 20wks (denial is my mothers speciality!). She found it very difficult, but then that had a lot to do with the fact she just didn't want 2 children that close together. I would say it definitely has it's advantages. I'm pg with my 2nd and my DS will be 3 on Sunday. It took me that long to consider another baby. But I do wonder if the gap is just too large for them to interact well.

I'm impressed with all these people who are so sexually active soon after childbirth.....

My DP and his brother are less than a year apart, they were incredibly close then and still are now. Interestingly, his brother (the younger) always seems to have played boss, the grown up role and still acts in this way to this day!! Probably becuase DP is generally quite easy going and dreamy!

My gran had 4 babies in less than 4 years, she also had one child 5 years older than the first of the 4. None were twins. Think it was the norm in those days and no one thought there was anything wrong with it, funny how things change.

It is quite common to fall pregnant very quickly with the second one, especially if it took a long time with the first - catches a lot of people out ! I think pregnancy kick starts something and makes you more fertile sometimes.

There is 14 months between me and my brother - we are very close, and got on ok as kids (fought a lot but nothing long term - compared to DH and his sister who are 3.5 years apart and don't get on and never did).

I have 2 sisters-in-law and both have 15 months gap between their first two - both survived to tell the tale .

Me - I have 18 months between my first and my 17 month old twins - now that is not something I would recommend

WOW - I too would have loved a small age gap, but sadly didn't happen - we were kind of trying from when dd was 4 months but was still bf and clearly not that furtile...so there will be 22 months between them - mind you dd seems to have hit the terrible twos so even that now seems too close!

twins does that count? my son was 3 when they were born. they will all be in senior school next year. life is good. its great when they grow up a bit.

Thanks for all the messages everyone. I'm feeling much more relaxed after reading your replies and now that the initial shock of falling pregnant so quickly has gone.

I'm really excited, but morning sickness has started already (in fact started 3 days before my period was due!!) I didn't start suffering with morning sickness this early last time.
