is it a myth? has it worked for anyone? feel so unsexy with this massive bump but willing to give it a go if it might work!

Sperm is supposed to contain the hormone that your body releases to start labour so the thinking is that an extra dose can shift things along.

I tried everything under the sun to start labour and it didn't do a damn thing. Went into labour 12 days late the day before induction booked.

Womble75 · 23/01/2017 18:56

Never worked for me. DD1 was 14 days late. Had sweep, sex every day past due date, pineapple, walking, up and down stairs, bouncing on ball hot curry, raspberry leaf tea but she didn't budge!! Induced in the end!! Hmm

PotteringAlong · 23/01/2017 18:57

It won't work. It's entirely coincidental if anyone says it does.

samlovesdilys · 23/01/2017 18:57

Coincidentally worked for me...twice!!

Dilligaf81 · 23/01/2017 18:59

Didnt work for me but can still remeber the fun we had the day before DD was born 12 years later Blush (she was induced but did only take 4 hours from pessary to birth)

chloechloe · 23/01/2017 19:02

Didn't work for me. Baby will come when it's ready and if it's not there's nothing you can do IMO. I tried everything with my first - nothing worked and I was induced.

With my second I was too scared to try it as her head was so low down she was practically falling out. She came 2 weeks early.

DumpedAbroad · 23/01/2017 19:02

I think it worked for me with DS2. Contractions started roughly an hour after.

deepestblue · 23/01/2017 19:04

those who it did work for, can you remember how many weeks you were?

OP posts:
Meffy · 23/01/2017 19:12

Coincidence worked for me 3 times!!

hatsandbagsandshoes · 23/01/2017 19:24

I was 38 weeks and waters broke the next morning, baby born in the afternoon.
Probably total coincidence though!

Doolallylally · 23/01/2017 19:26

Yes it worked for me. My orgasm triggered contractions but I was ten days over.

samlovesdilys · 23/01/2017 20:54

On the due date for 1st, a week late for 2nd...both then began following morning...it's got to be worth a try...surely??!!!

ShowOfHands · 23/01/2017 21:01

It doesn't work. They've tested the theory and everything. Lots of people have sex and a baby within a day. Mostly because they're heavily pregnant. The sex is irrelevant. More people will have sex and not go into labour. It's simple coincidence.

Try asking how many people ate chocolate in the 24hrs before labour. Bet your hit rate would be more significant but scientifically, just as tenuous a link.

Nursey1984 · 23/01/2017 21:16

May have been a coincidence but it worked for me too. My waters broke early the following morning, baby born that night. I was 37 weeks.

Jecan · 23/01/2017 21:21

A GP once told me it worked if the woman had an orgasm. There was no chance I was anywhere near one at 41 was pregnant!

Jecan · 23/01/2017 21:21

weeks

deepestblue · 23/01/2017 23:54

well i've gave it a try anyway so fingers crossed Grin think dp is hoping it doesn't work straight away so we have to try it more!

Blackbird82 · 23/01/2017 23:59

It worked for me, I was 40 weeks. The sex was bloody awful, but needs must!

deepestblue · 24/01/2017 00:05

yeah it's hard putting anything in there when all you want to do is push something out 😂

finova · 24/01/2017 09:54

Worked for me, contractions started 2 hours after.

Rikalaily · 24/01/2017 11:33

Has worked 5x for me. It's not just the sperm but ORGASMS! They can kick start your contractions because the uterus contracts when you have one, the combo of the sperm helping to ripen the cervix and the O's is the key. Obviously won't work for absolutely everyone but has for most that I've heard of x
