When do you have scans?

I had a 12 week scan and now am not due to have another midwife apointment or scan until 20 weeks, is this normal? I've read that some people seem to be having scans at 16 weeks as well?

I had a 12 and 20 week scan, seemed to be the norm where I am. Maybe those having 16 week scans are not having the 12week??

sounds normal to me

Exactly the same as in my area so pefectly normal. Normally the 16 week scan is an alternative to both the 12 and 20 week scan and it depends on your local hospital as to what their policy is. It does seem a long time to wait between appointments but if you have any worries/concerns either your GP or midwife is normally happy to see you between appointments.

if you have a normal, low risk straightforward pregnancy, then 2 scans at 12 and around 20 weeks is all you need.

Sounds normal, or more than normal to me.
I had a 12 and 20 week scan with DS1, but had moved to a different area with DS2 and only got offered the 20 week scan.

At my hospital we get a 13 week scan only, no 20 week one unless there are concerns. I was offered one as we have congenital defects on both sides of the family but turned it down because of practical difficulties. However the midwives are very quick to refer for a scan if they have any concerns, eg small-for-dates etc, and you can get a scan very quickly.

In terms of being seen, I met the midwife when I was 9 weeks pg for a booking in appointment, but didn't see her again until I was 16 weeks because of my scan appointment in between. Will see her again at 20 weeks.
