too much fluid around baby

I had my 38 week m.w appointment this morning and she wasn't sure if baby was head down or not so sent me for a scan.
Baby is h.d but they found out baby is big and too much fluid . I have to go back tomorrow for a glucose test that takes 2 hours, then where they put band round my belly to check baby then all this again Monday, scan Wednesday . I've had a bit of sugar picked up at one m.w appointment and again today so I'm worried now. Has anyone had this?

I had this last week too. Sent for a growth scan as thought baby was big. Went for scan and they said baby was fine but had too much fluid called polyhdramnios. I was also sent for a glucose test and it's come back that I have gestational diabetes which is the cause of the extra fluid.

Try not to worry too much, they will keep an extra close eye on you, I have to go in 2 x weekly for monitoring and consultant says il be induced at 39 weeks x

I had this but it was only picked up at 40 weeks. They told me it could be because of diabetes, or because the baby isn't swallowing or just for no reason at all. Dd2 had a tube put down her throat at birth to check on the swallowing and all was fine. It turned out to be just a random excess fluid - my bump measurement jumped up 6cm in two weeks

I had blood taken at 9.15, drank the glucose solution and was told I must come back at 11.25 on the dot. I was sat waiting and it came to 11.30 I said to lady on reception I was a bit worried as I hadn't been called. Turns out he had gone home ill and nobody else was going to take over unless I had said anything so I hope that doesn't effect results. I had bands on belly for 30-40 mins, heart rate was up a little but she thinks its because baby very active. I'm going again Monday.

I had this in my first pregnancy. My daughter was 10lb10oz at birth and I had lots of fluid but I had the GTT test and I didn't have diabetes. They it can happen for loads of different reasons and it's not a bad thing for the baby at all.
They only thing it changed for me was they induced me on my due date as the excess fluid rushing out could have caused complications.
I'm pregnant with number two now and no sign of the extra fluid...they still aren't sure why it happened!

Sorry, they also monitored me once a week at the end to look for signs of impending labour and check on the baby. Get even more confident as I was constantly checked!

I had this, was due to had tests at 32wk but she came before I had results (came back clear after) there's sometimes no reason for it, 38wk is classed as full term, so try not to worry

I had this - we had some extra monitoring, a few tests which all came back negetive. They induced (eventual c-section) and had me absolutely terrified! But she is here and healthy as anything... we never did identify a cause.

I'm obviously glad they were cautious but it was all a bit of a non-event! I'd been googling all sorts of things.

The fluid apparently made scans more inaccurate as the last month of my pregnancy was spent telling me I had at least a 9lb baby (probably 10... even the Midwife halfway through was feeling her head and telling me she was huge) - she was 7lb 10oz so perfectly average.

People have been telling me I look huge and tbf I do but midwife didn't pick up on it.

Had g.d confirmed today but they said at this stage not much they can do and just said be careful what you eat.
