Anti D Injection

Hi all,

I'm rhesus ng, and I have my Anti D injection tomorrow.

Is it painful, did it make you poorly afterwards? Don't know why I've got anxiety over this injection! Usually fine with bloods!

Hi, little while since I had mine (4 years) but it didn't hurt a bit, and no after effects! You'll barely notice it Smile

Mine was painless with no side effects. It was the whooping cough vaccination that gave me a sore arm for a few days, the anti D I pretty much forgot about as soon as I'd had it!

Stings a little bit but over and done with in a flash really. Wasn't sore afterwards with any of mine

Had mine done a few weeks ago. Had it in top of the arm it did sting going in then I had to sit for 20mins afterwards just to check I was ok.
Was all fine and drove myself home and didnt feel anything afterwards.

I ended up having 3 throughout my pregnancy and after, not really painful but my arm went a bit dead after each one. No other side effects.

I had 3 with DD1 (2 routine during pregnancy, plus 1 after a fall).
I had 4 with DD2 (2 routine, plus 1 after a knock to bump, plus 1 after birth).
They were all quick/ fine/ painless/ no after or side effects.

However, the 2 "emergency" injections did sting a tiny bit as the liquid went in- I can only think that I was less relaxed due to the incidents that had led to me to needing those extra injections, so was more tensed up.
Try to relax and don't tense up- it will be fine Smile

I've got my whooping cough jab on Tuesday! I had my flu jab and was totally fine with that, no side effects at all!

Don't you also have another Anti D one before the baby is born, or am I over thinking it?

I had slight issues with mine, but I think that was to do with the fact I was also struggling with low blood pressure too as all it exacerbated the issues I was already dealing with, ie dizziness and lightheadedness

Depends what your baby's blood group is as to whether you have another after they're born I did for one but not the other - can't remember which way round it was (one is neg like me and one is positive)

I had two this year as I had 2 miscarriages and am rhesus negative too. Yes you usually have another once the baby is born to "prepare you for another pregnancy"

they don't hurt anymore than a normal injection and ive personally never had any side effects

I've had 3 this pregnancy and they came with a bit of a dull pain when they are beng administered but not unbearable

Like a pp said it's the whooping cough jab that gave me a sore arm out of all of them.

I had mine a couple of weeks ago and midwife warned me it would be painful. I honestly felt nothing at all and couldn't believe that it was over and I am the biggest woos ever.

I was a bit annoyed with the midwife as she had me all worried beforehand. Ok maybe warn people it might be uncomfortable but she really went on making all these faces and saying she hated doing this.

I had the anti D jab. They put it in my bum. I was horrified but I barely felt it. They said its less painful that way. I had it again after DS birth because he is rh positive. Don't worry about it!

It stings as it goes in because it is a thick, syrup-like mixture.

I was warner beforehand but it's not too bad. Just relax and grit your teeth!

I felt absolutely fine afterwards.

Just to warn you, if your baby is positive, you'll need another jab after delivery.

Ive had it twice up to now through bleeding and will have to have the usual routine one no doubt. Didn't hurt me and i had no adverse reactions to it.

Had it in all 4 of my pregnancies

Done in bum, little sting and doesn't effect you after at all

ALLthedinosaurs I had my first one in my bum, but when I went for my second about 15 weeks later all ready to pull my pants down again they said it wasn't the recommended way any more and was outdated, and it should go in the arm.

So OP if they come at you with a needle for your bum you can always say no Grin up to you of course,

Saying that, my GP surgery is like a timewarp to the 80s, so I should be fine.
