Antenatal Classes

The midwife has just told me that husbands are not allowed to come to the antenatal classes as there is not enough room in the room for them!!! I really want my husband to come with me so I am going to look for alternative classes, does anyone know anything about the NCT and do you have to pay for these? I've heard some midwives are very dismissive of the NCT, does anyone know why?

Hi kittypower. I've just finished a course of 7 NCT classes (with DH) and I can honestly say they were worth every penny. Really fantastic. We feel so prepared, and not at all pressured into trying for the 'right' kind of birth.

We're in London and the course cost £200, but I know it's significantly cheaper elsewhere in the country.

Hi Kittypower. I was able to take my husband to NHS antenatal classes but he didn't want to go. I also booked in to NCT classes and went with my mum as dh was working. It was actually 2 6 hour sessions on 2 consecutive Saturdays. I found it very informative and you can ask the instructor anything you like. They don't just talk about childbirth but about caring for the baby afterwards and the emotions involved. I don't know if they all do this but our instructor arranged for a reunion after the birth and I am still in touch with 3 of the women I went to the classes with 2 years on. I would recommend going to NCT classes if you can afford it. I think I paid about £100.

I thought NCT classes were worth it, even though i had hospital ones as well.
Remember, nct is a charity so if you can't afford the classes still get in touch and see what they can sort out for you - they want their classes to be available to all.

NCT classes are all generally £120 and up. But yes, they do offer concessions.

If you are interested in doing NCT classes, you should try to book asap, frankly.
