why can't you take them?

MrsJayy · 09/01/2017 22:51

I had horrible uti in pregnancy it was crap. Why can't you take iron tablets though ?

BobbyNoggle · 09/01/2017 22:53

If it's the horrible stomach side effects of iron sulphate tablets that prevent you taking them, have you considered something like spatone?

Ohyesiam · 09/01/2017 22:54

Can you take the supplement Floradix? It is from fruit that contain lots of iron and the body can absorb and utelise it really easily, unlike the iron in iron tablets, most of which has to be excreted, as it can't be absorbed, and this caused those nasty side effects.
It's in boots , you could ask the pharmacist of it's suitable for use in pregnancy.

Hawkmoth · 09/01/2017 22:55

Or ferrous fumarate? I can take them and I've a very sensitive stomach. The capsules are best rather than tablets. You can also get it in liquid form but it's fucking disgusting.

maza09 · 09/01/2017 22:56

because they make me feel ten times worse on then than i do off them

Have you tried taking only one iron table per day?
And taking it with Vitamin C (either a fizzy Vit C tablet or even just orange juice)?

And has your UTI been confirmed by culture?
You've had the appropriate antibiotics?

What does your MW/GP suggest?

PacificDogwod · 09/01/2017 22:58

And how far on are you now?

maza09 · 09/01/2017 22:59

I was just about to suggest spa tone but wasn't sure if it was ok in pregnancy. It was recommended to me by midwife after I had my dd.
I was discharged from hospital
after needing shed loads of blood transfusions and a HB of 7.8 which was actually a vast improvement on what it had been.

After 3 weeks it was only up to 8 and I still felt shocking. Midwife recommended spa time and 2 weeks later HB was 11.8 with no side effects unlike the tablets!

*shed load = lots! Grin

Grumpbum · 09/01/2017 23:10

All forms of oral iron make me vomit I had an iron infusion .... I actually felt relatively normal for the last 3/40

maza09 · 09/01/2017 23:14

I take Viridan liquid iron and Boost Vit B12 spray. Maybe speak to your chemist/pharmacy they may be able to advise. The sprays are a mist but do not upset my stomach.

maza09 · 09/01/2017 23:19

its a nightmare never had a pregnancy like it
