Can I have my ultrasound in a different town

I'm currently living in Northern Ireland, my partner is in England for work, he can not get time off work to get over here for the scan due to work commitments. I'm just wondering would I be able to have my scan booked for somewhere in England on the NHS so I can experience it with my partner? Would they allow me to do that? It's going to be the big 20 week scan so they will be revealing the gender and really want to find out with my partner by my side

You can ask, but I think it's unlikely they'll do a single scan in England if all the rest of your antenatal care is in NI. What if they do find something (it is after all an ANOMALY scan, not a gender scan!) that needs follow up? Referring back and forth would get very complicated.

You could consider getting a private gender scan over here if that's what's important to you, or rearranging your 20 week one for a time your DP can make.

I agree that these are probably your two options.

I do know it's an anomaly scan! I'm just saying I would like to find out what we're having together as at the 20 week scan they disclose the gender. Did call it a gender scan at all? NO. I asked a question iff I could have my scan in another city/town so I could be with my partner not anything else. It's women like you that make me not even want to ask questions on here!

Op not sure of answer to your question. second suggestion that you could have a private scan together or you could ask the sonographer to write it down and put in a sealed envelope for you and partner to open together?

Do you have Groupon in NI? They always have offers of private scans. Go to this scan alone and DONT ask the gender then get a private scan anywhere with DP and do.

I had to go to a scan on my own once as DP could get the time off for love nor money. I felt piss d of but that is life and the job/career he chose.

You could always book to go for a 3D scan in England?

Worth bearing in mind that not all hospitals will tell you the sex anyway, for a variety of reasons. Sorry if I sounded snappy, it's one of my bugbears that people don't take the anomaly scan seriously.

I completely understand wanting to have your partner with you at the scan, both to find out the baby's sex and in case there is something wrong. But as I said, it would be difficult logistically to just have one scan in one place, and all your other antenatal care elsewhere. Your DP is technically entitled to (unfortunately unpaid) time off for your scan appointment (www.gov.uk/government/news/new-right-for-fathers-and-partners-to-attend-antenatal-appointments) though I guess not all employers are completely on board with this. For the sake of continuity of care, you don't want to be messing about hospital-hopping, so I think one of the previous options already mentioned is best.

Just ask them not to reveal the gender there. Book a private scan with your dp at a time when you are over in England.

It seems like all the pregnant people I know at the moment (I'm pregnant therefore it feels like every other person also is!) has struggled to find out the sex at the 20 week scan. I don't know if it's my local hospital's policy or the sonographers just don't like to guess but I wouldn't pin my hopes by booking flights etc. Think you can get a private scan for about £40 so that might be a better option.
