Bump measuring small and worried

Hi,

Ive had two children before this pregnancy and both were big babies. 8lb 10 and then 9lb13. So far this pregnancy, all the talk has been about growth scans, test for diabetes and possibly early induction to avoid an even larger baby!

So when I had my midwife appt today at 29 weeks, it came as a big shock to find in measuring 24cm! Obviously on my growth chart (plotted from previous pregnancies, weight etc) this is well below what is expected.

I have been booked in for a scan on Tuesday but I'm really worried. Has this happened to anyone? Would love to hear others evieriences.

Xx

Hi,
Yes my second baby went through a period of static growth. I was referred for a scan at 27 weeks and found fluid levels low and she was on the small side.

Weekly scans kept an eye on her and she eventually picked up a few weeks later (so did the fluid levels)

She was born a week late at 7lbs 8oz.

It's also quite possible thebpoaitikn baby was in might have made the measurement out.

Don't worry Flowers

That's meant to say the position of the baby.

Thank you so much! I've been googling fundal height / small bumps / panic panic! 😁😳 just so unexpected after 2 pretty large babies. Movement seems fine, heartbeat was fine today, so I'm rationalising and telling myself there is likely a very good explanation. Thanks again, reassuring to hear your story xx

They said I was small, had a growth scan fairly late on in pregnancy. Then baby born on due date weighing 7lb8. I think bump measurements are very inaccurate (though I would worry too but that's what I'm like!)

I was "small for dates" but ds1 ended up being born 2 weeks late at 8.10 pounds.

With Ds2 I was 2 weeks big for my dates - I convinced myself that that meant he would be 2 weeks early but no, he was also.2 weeks late and 9 pounds! Not that much bigger considering I was absolutely huge!

It's really not an exact science!

Thanks everyone, it's v reassuring to hear these stories. Now, I will expect a teeny little baby and it will surprise me again and be gigantic!!! Seems such an archaic way of measuring baby growth 🤔

When I had my other children they never measured bump, youngest is 7. I'm 36 weeks now and I've been sent for a growth scan once because bump apparently hadn't grown in 3 weeks. Was told actually baby on large side was approx 4lb at 32 weeks. Midwife still almost sent me for another scan a few weeks later. Today bump has jumped in size but she thinks its because baby has turned and was b2b last time.

Thanks thecatsarecrazy, feeling more relaxed about it all today, I'm feeling baby move so I'm sure things are ok. Waiting for scan next week

I was told I was having about a 7lb baby and he came in at 11lb 9oz. He was my first (and last). He was back to back all the way through pregnancy so maybe thats why I was told he would be small.
