I had a membrane sweep done yesterday morning and had a few braxton hicks and contractions but it all died down when I went to bed and since around 10am today I have been loosing mucus plug all day. It's clear so far with no blood.
Is this normal and happens to Everyone who has a sweep? Or does this mean labor is approaching?

The plug was in the opening of the cervix. When they sweep you they insert fingers into the cervix and run them along between the cervix/uterus and the amniotic sac/membranes. So yup it's normal.

Normal, I had a sweep with my first, it carried on for a few days after.

Did you go into labor

I went into labour a few hours after losing my plug. I lost my plug a day after my membrane sweep. Sweep on the Friday, baby delivered at 2am Sunday. Good luck!

Oh nikki I thought you was being induced in hospital? What is the next step for you if sweep doesn't work? Hope you don't have to wait too long. X

Nikki, no I was induced that time 5 days later. But don't lose hope it is so different for everyone. As I've learned from my subsequent labours plug loss for me goes on absolutely ages, that doesn't mean you are the same :)

BettyOBarley · 04/01/2017 20:24

Yes afraid to say I lost my plug after two sweeps but still had to be induced with DC1. However I didn't lose any plug whatsoever with DC2 (that I saw anyway) and had a very quick birth so it's not a good indicator really. Good luck

Can I ask did yous also have very loose stools and feel sickly after the sweep?

As I have all day and barely eaten and what I have eaten it's coming out the other end

I didn't after either sweep just felt totally normal but I did in early labour with my second...... SmileSmile

calimommy · 04/01/2017 20:59

Oh that's a good sign! Your bowels are clearing out for the labour later!!

Nikki2ol6 · 04/01/2017 21:04

Oh good I hope it is the start I just didn't know if that was normal after a sweep the it will all stop?

OP posts:
calimommy · 04/01/2017 21:25

No it's a good sign that your feeling that way it shows your body reacted to the sweep or else it was a coincidence and you were going to go then anyway 😝
With my last baby I was already in early labour and she did a sweep while checking dilation and I went like a rocket after that!

Nikki2ol6 · 04/01/2017 21:38

Lol oh hope I don't go like a rocket I want a nice smooth start
