I'm 38 weeks and have been contracting on and off for 24 hours. I had a check up yesterday night and was sent home, 1 cm dilated! Just been contracting on and off today. Has nayone else had this? I just thought it would be faster by the third baby!!

poor you!

i've only had one bubba so far, and it took 9 hrs from waters breaking to holding DS. 5 mins of pushing!!

I'd assumed that with the next one it'd be out like a shot...perhaps not!

My third was 11 days late.... I believe that second births are often faster, etc but not necessarily third ones...

I have had two relatively quick labours so far, so I suppose this has come as a surprise. I sort of want to get it over with, but also feel like getting some more rest first!!

I am 38 wks expecting my 3rd and hoping it will all start very soon, fed up waiting! I certainly hope things happen faster 3rd time around as I went over with 1st and 2nd and don't fancy waiting too much longer. At least things are happening for you ... all the best.

My 3rd was like this too. I was in very slow latent labour for quite a few days. On the Thursday evening I was about 1cm dilated, checked again on Friday morning I was 4cm dilated and I niggled on adn off then until I woke up at 2am on the Sunday morning in established labour, regular contractions (you know when you know 'this is it'?!) and I gave birth that morning at 4.45am. So it was very quick once I got going but I niggled along for a good few days beforehand.

aww, how unfair! My first was like that, my second was textbook labour, my third was the dts, and I'd been having cramps for days and put it down to BHs, but it turned out I was in early labour.

Gobbledigook · 05/03/2007 11:28

1st was induced at 40+10
2nd was a week early and it was so quick that I went to hospital 'just in case' as I wasn't sure I was in labour and he was born 30 minutes later
3rd was, as I say, very long early labour but just a couple of hours once I was in 'established' labour.

Good luck girls!

you might well find once you actually get into established labour it is very quick ! labour could be any time from now to 40 + weeks, so try not to stress about it all , rest ( if you can with two other children!! ), and you;ll know when it is the main event
