Early Pregnancy Pains

What do you class as normal early pregnancy pains? I had a EP 3 months ago and im now 4 weeks and 4 days pregnant. Since day 1 of finding out i was pregnant ive had strange pains in my pelvic region. At first they were on both my sides and around the middle. But since last night theyve been more on my left. My GP said that early pains are normal but im worried due to my DP history.

With the EP i had a numb pain on one side and also brown discharge. This time its more like a scratching or stinging pain. Its not severe, more like a twinge. And ive got no discharge.

Is what im feeling normal?

I don't really know, but I think that you get all kinds of odd twinges as everything is stretching. If it really hurts and you're worried though, get it checked out by your doctor...

Sorry - you have had it checked out! Can't think of anything else to suggest other than contacting your EPU and asking for an early scan to make sure everything is okay.

Sound very much like the ligaments stretching which is totally normal, I had quite sharp twinges of pain on and off till about 16 wks with both of mine. Your GP should be able to reassure you more. If you feel well otherwise and have no bleeding then things are probably ok.

Thanks Mumpbump. My doctor has refered me to the Gyne Dept at my local hospital. Im just waiting for them to get back to me with my early scan date. Im not in bad pain. Just odd twinges now and again. As im only 4 weeks 4 days would my uturus (sp) be stretching already?

I hope im just being over paranoid which i probably am. Ive only got 1 tube left and i cant help worrying.

Hi Natalie. With both my pregnancies the first sign of pregnancy I had were cramping pains. I had a miscarriage the first time around and when I had pelvic pains with my second pregnancy I was really scared but they were normal and everything turned out fine. They did start very early on, and are just like you described - I felt them on both sides to start with but then they were just one one side and I was convinced something was wrong but nothing was. It was just ligaments stretching They did get very painful sometimes - especially if I rolled over in bed or stood up too quickly...

try not to worry I am in week 6 of my pregnancy and it is almost constant nagging period type pains in my pelvic region, it is scary but I remember this with my first baby and everyone says its normal but it is hard to ignore when you have had complications in the past. It should pass but go for an early scan to put your mind at ease.

I'm so pleased I found this post, as I was going to ask the same question as Natalie.
I'll be 5 weeks tomorrow and have been getting intermittent sensations like mild period pains since I got my BFP.
Had a missed m/c last year, so I panic with every twinge I get, and am knicker-watching for Great Britain .

Hi natalie,

i hope the scan goes well. if it can er-assure you in anway, i've had similar pains, i am 9 weeks now, and panicked a few times but everything is normal. It gets worse in the evening usually a warm bath helps
i know what eaglebird means by knicer-watching for england!

Thanks for the replies everyone and i hope that your pregnancy's go smoothly.
The pain/twinge on my left side is more constant now and im worrying even more as ive only got one tube now. It feels more like a stinging sensation today but theres also a spot that feels quite bruised (same kind of pain i had with my EP). Im thinking of going to A&E. Im 4 weeks + 5 days so its still early days and the pain is probably caused by everything thats stretching. I just need to put my mind at rest.

Hi Natalie.
Have you tried ringing NHS Direct? They might be able to give some advice.
However, if you're still worried, please do go straight to A&E. Hopefully they will be able to scan you (at such an early stage it will probably be an internal scan)and put your mind at rest.

I had lots of early pains and even bled for 3 weeks solid this time around. Was certain I was going to miscarry - I did with my first pregnancy - but am now 38+3. So don't give up hope. A difficult bit was having an early scan at 5 weeks and being told to go away for a fortnight because they couldn't tell. Those 2 weeks were the slowest of my life. My second pregnancy which resulted in a lovely bouncing boy, now 17months, took forever too. I never got out of the habit of checking my pants for blood.

I was certain that my instincts were telling me that I'd lost this baby too but I was completely wrong thank god. Pregnancy just is horribly uncomfortable from start to finish!

Thanks for the replies girls. I ended going to A& E in the end. I was in so much pain that DP took me straight up. Due to my EP history i was admitted as an in paitent. Dr took my bloods to measure the HCG and did a scan this morning.

Im happy to say that my little beanie has made it to the right place . Im just under 5 weeks so all we could see on the scan was the sack filled with fluid. My HCG results were high too. They are in the 1000s. Last time with the EP they never got higher that 300 and i was 6 weeks. The pains that im feeling are due to my scar tissue stretching.

Im so pleased now that i know whats going on. I go back in 2 weeks for another scan when i will be just under 7 weeks
