Holiday pay and maternity leave

Wonder if anyone can help?
I work full time and I'm entitled to 22 days holiday (after bank holidays).
At work we get to put our holiday requests in from the first of January for next year.
As I'm due at the end of July I wanted to know if I'm still entitled to all of my holidays before I take my maternity leave?
As I will be leaving for maternity leave at the end of June could my boss tell me I'm only entitled to half of my holidays?

You accrue annual leave while on maternity leave so you should in theory be able to take all your leave before you go. If your boss tells you that you're only entitled to half, it means that you could use the other half at the end of mat leave, you wouldn't lose it.

Maternity leave or no, your employer is always able to decline any request for annual leave. You have the right to paid Annual Leave but you don't have the right to take it at a time of your own choice.

By all means request the days you want but if they say no then you have to accept that. Most employers prefer for the accrued annual leave to be taken at the end of the leave rather than the beginning.

You say you can put your requests in from 1st Jan but when does the holiday year actually start? Also remember that if you don't return full time your leave will be pro rata from that date you return part time too. If you will return full time then you will get the full entitlement.

Bank holidays still count too also... so any you miss whilst on leave you'll have to be given as extra after (or before if they let you)

It's from 1st Jan to end of December, I'm not sure if I will even go back, I hope to but not sure. it's a demanding job with long hours, and I've been treated badly by them in the past. I just want to make sure they don't mug me over as I'm 100% sure they will try it!

I'm not able to carry leave over from one year to the next. My daughter was born in March. I started my mat leave a week before my due date so it ended during December and I used annual leave to take me up to the end of the year. I tagged the leftover leave to the start of my maternity leave so I actually finished three weeks earlier than my mat leave start date. This time I'm due in August and plan to take all of my leave before or I'll lose it. We have a generous leave entitlement but my employers will only pay the legal minimum number of days if you don't use it.

Make sure you get it written down in writing as the bastard small business I worked for when I was pregnant and then on maternity leave refused to pay me my holiday entitlement,they made up some slanderous rumours about me and said that they wouldn't pay me. I was never intending to go back but I had worked there for over 3 years. I was very happy when a year later the business closed down!

I'm sure legally employers have to give you your holiday but if your maternity leave runs over the holiday year end period then you must take it all in one go at the end. Of course you can take some before too, but if you have baby earlier then your maternity leave kicks in on that day and not your planned day. You'd then need to add any of that holiday you missed out on to the end. I hope that makes sense? For example, I'm due 12 March, have asked to take 2.5 weeks A/L then start maternity leave. If baby arrives early all that will go out of the window. I'm planning on taking 9 months maternity and then tacking any remaining holiday on the end which will take me to Jan 2018. If I'd taken 6 months maternity I'd have returned in Sept and could choose when to take my holiday.
