I have been for an antenatal check up this morning but unfortunately ds2 was running around and I didn't really concentrate on asking questions. In her notes she has put the following (could you tell me what they mean)

?CEPH 4/5 LOL

I think it's saying you're 4 fifths engaged - ie the head is one fifth of the way down.

MrsJohnCusack · 20/02/2007 10:47

CEPH = head down
4/5 - now they seem to do this two ways, either it means the head is 1/5th of the way down, or 4/5ths. unless you feel like the head is by your knees, it's probably the former

LOL is how the baby is lying - means Left Ooccipito Lateral (? something like that anyway).

MrsJohnCusack · 20/02/2007 10:50

means it's lying on the left, with its back kind of facing outwards rather than towards your back - LOL and LOA are the optimal positions when it gets towards labour.

I'll stand corrected if an actual midwife/doula comes along though!

CEPH means head down

4/5 means they can feel 4/5 of the fetal head above the pelvic brim;1/5 is therefore below the pelvic brim (engaged)

LOL means left occipitolateral position-basically facing the left

Thanks for this, it makes more sense now.

Unfortunately she could feel something hard at the bottom and at the top just under my ribs and couldnt be sure if it was the head or not. Now i'm worried that it is breech. I am 35 weeks and already feel there is no room.

where do you feel movement?

elliedragon · 20/02/2007 10:56

On my right hand side, really far round so it feels it is going to pop out the side. I also get movement near my ribs especially when driving and it hurts to bend down.

sounds like feet in ribs to me anyway...hurts doesnt it? im sure they will be able to tell for certain at your next appointment, and if she put CEPH on your notes then she must be fairly certain
