When to test?

Hi All,
This is my first potential pregnancy so sorry if this is an obvious question.
My period was due yesterday (never normally late) I took a cheap strip test this morning which was negative. How long am i best waiting before testing again? Does it matter what sort i use or do they all work the same?
I've also had abit of spotting earlier today, is this normal as i'm worrying abit

Spotting in the early days is common I think, sign of implantation

Hi. Wait a few days. And use a FRER test. An early response one with the two pink lines. Those are the most sensitive. But! Don't be disheartened as I'm guessing this is your first cycle?

Hi, to be honest me and my partner weren't trying, but not taking precautions either, more of a whatever happens happens sort of situation. I will get a first response if i haven't got AF by early next week
