Woke up to a blood bath Arggghh. Nosebleed!

I have never in my life had a nosebleed. I woke up to feel a trickle (thought it was snot) this morning after a coughing fit and a tena lady moment .

I realised it was blood, got up and it just started coming out like niagra falls. Needless to say I crapped myself (yes though I was gonna die)even called my poor mother in a state at around 5:30am.

Then called NHS Direct and they were fab. Was advised to book an appointment to get BP checked. Why?

Has anyone else only ever suffered a nosebleed in pregnancy?

The only time i get nosebleeds is during pregnancy
I had loads as a child but they disappeared when I was a teenager.
But I get them frequently when pregnant
But then I also have silly high BP

Have had nosebleeds at other times, but did get a few bad ones when pregnant with dd1 - large blood clots, real gushers, not pleasant. Don't know why - sorry that doesn't really help. Give your midwife a call if you're worried.

They are bloody scarey!! (no pun intended. All I ever remembered of nose bleeds was that loads of friends had them at school and you were told then to put your head back and pinch the top of your nose. I did this first, only to start choking. The Nhs direct nurse yes thats very old school LOL

Just found something on baby world that mentions, nosebleeds can be a normal pregnancy symptom

Had another massive one this afternoon, that wouldn't stop (stopped after 45 mins) which resulted in spending day in the delivery suite getting my blood pressure checked and everything else. Have to ring in a tic for results of blood tests in a tic.

Am absolutley petrified it's going to start again whilst i'm asleep & am scared I will choke on it yes I know such a wuss!!

It was worse the second time and although I was bent forward it still went in my throat.

Does anyone else have them like this and if sso what do you do to stop it asap??

hi there, i used to get loads of nosebleeds as a kid, temperature changes used to set them off, getting in to the bath was like something out of a horror film. I have had a couple since i've found out i'm pregnant, nothing major and not nearly as bad as yours sound. I hope you manage to find a solution. I'm sure you won't choke, how far along are you? If you're quite a way through your pregnancy I'm sure you can't sleep on your back anyway, so if you do have a nosebleed at night, it'll drain away safely. Messy but nothing to worry about! Hope you get it all sorted soon xx

Popsy I put ice chips in a tissue earlier and think it was that the eventually stopped it, So gonna have to prepare some ice bags just incase.

Mrsmar am 26 weeks, and your are right bump is to big to sleep on front. I think it's just the fact it was still flowing down my throat even when bent forward that makes me think I will choke. Its madness I know to be so worried about nose bleeds but it really has frightened me and I have been feeling dizzy since the last one, although the Midwife just informed that i'm anemic (sp?) which is proberbly the cause of that. Just hope it heals and doesn't happen again.

This reminds me of when I was a student, and I went to visit a friend and was dragged through to his bedroom with much excitement. "Come see this, this is great!" he cried proudly showing a pillow covered in blood. He'd woken up with a massive nosebleed, and was very much in awe of how much mess he'd created. And no, in reponse to my enquiries about did he know how to get dried blood out, he wasn't worried yet as the sheets weren't due to be changed until next week! Eeewwww!!!

Hope you don't think I'm making light of your predicament - I'd have been a bit freaked out myself. But thought this might raise a smile? (And hopefully not make you feel too sick)

Hi, I had this happen about 4-5wks ago. Was like having a vein slashed in my nose. Very scary. Thought nothing of it and put it down to just being pg. Mentioned it to my mum and some work friends who told me to get down to the dr's asap. Did as i was told and lucky i guess, coz my bp was raised and they also picked up a urine infection.

Get yourself checked out (if you havent already) just to be on the cautios side.

I had this with my first pregnancy - I used to wake up with a pillow covered in blood. According to my mum I used to get nose bleeds as a child - which I can't remember, but anyway it's supposed to me another great side effect of being pregnant!
