Regular contractions with no pain?!

Hi ladies was admitted to MAU this afternoon with reduced movement and whilst on the ctg machine I started having regular contractions with very little pain. The midwife examined me and said that I was 1 cm and that my cervix had started to open and tried to give me a sweep but couldn't quite get a finger in. I got sent home and I'm still having these regular tightenings every 3 minutes but there's no pain with them. I'm just asking if anyone else had any experience of this and if the went into labour after having a sweep at 37 weeks

Hmm. Not sure. (After 3 babies!) But I always have extremely fast labours (first one was sub 3 hours from waking up to birth) so I may well have been contracting painlessly for a while first. And my first one was early (so were second and third) - not that they are necessarily linked. With the second, I was awake when I noticed the first niggle but it wouldn't have woken me until about 10 minutes later. I also went into full on shouting the house down pain within 15 minutes. But that's because I was contracting extremely quickly which is exceptionally painful apparently. (Obviously preferable to 48 hours of labour so please don't think I'm complaining.) Good luck! And if you're in doubt, call the midwives...

OP all 4 of my labours were totally pain free with just irregular tightenings, when the pain hit it just came thick and fast and I delivered very quickly all within 15 minutes, they are called precipitous labours

lightswitchedoff · 18/12/2016 22:49

How long is each one lasting?

Notjustapregnantlady · 18/12/2016 22:50

Not sure if they're doing anything to my cervix though with them being painfree!

Sorry they're lasting about a minute

Have a wander, do they get stronger with gravity?

Notjustapregnantlady · 18/12/2016 23:08

They do get stronger as in I can feel my stomach getting harder bit still not really painful.

How are you normally with pain? I didn't think three of my labours were that bad, and the other was only because I was annoyed that the midwives had gone home with the gas and air. Really, until I had to keep still for any reason it was bearable.

On the other hand, it might be Braxton hicks, which are no fun but don't do anything. Time will tell!

Notjustapregnantlady · 18/12/2016 23:19

I'm good with pain just gas and air on both my labour's. Baby is having a rave in there is can hear my waters moving around! Also getting stabbing pains on my cervix

I had a sweep at 37 weeks due to reduced movements and them picking up painless contractions on the monitor, I was 1cm dilated and she was able to do a good sweep, tightenings continued for another 3 weeks and 5 days, but the early progress may be the reason that I was 3-4cm dilated at my due date sweep, and had a pretty quick labour at just over five hours.

Hope you're not waiting as long :)

Notjustapregnantlady · 18/12/2016 23:53

Well i know I probably shouldn't have but just checked my cervix and I can get 2 fingers inside so hopefully these contractions are doing something!

How exciting!

Notjustapregnantlady · 19/12/2016 00:00

Call the midwife/maternity unit, tell them everything and ask them what you should do. They'll know...

mum2Bomg · 19/12/2016 01:54

Or that close then go to hospital!

Hawkmoth · 19/12/2016 07:28

Oh goodness OP, how are you now?

Notjustapregnantlady · 19/12/2016 08:26

I rang the birth centre they said I could come in if I wanted to to be assessed but I decided against it because the pains weren't strong enough, it's a good job I did because everything has stopped Sad

I'm almost 38wks and keep having painless regular tightenings that stop and start I have no idea about my cervix as it hasn't been checked. Iv also only ever had 1 sweet and it was during my labour and it made the pains unbareable!!!
