Car Seat

Hi,

We are getting ready in case the baby has to come early and so put the car seat in the car today. We've got a Kiddy one with an isofix base and I thought it would be solid and not move when it, but it moves a bit when you shake it, is that normal?

We're first time parents so never had to fit a car seat before and I wasnt sure if we need to take it somewhere to get checked it's in right?

Yeah they do move a little bit.

If you bought it from a store they should be able to check it for you.

It's okay that it moves a little bit. Don't shake a car seat from side to side, though, especially by holding the side protection wings, as it can damage the protective material.

To check the fit of a rear-facing seat you should place the heel of your hand at the top of the seat shell (where the baby's head would go) and push. It should not move in this direction.

(To check a forward facing seat you should do up the harness and tug firmly on it).

Thanks Both.

We got it from Mothercare, but online and there isn't a store close.

If you're located near Essex or Suffolk there are car seat clinics you can get your fit checked at: rearfacing.co.uk/safetyofficers.php

There's also the In-Car Safety Centre located in Essex, Milton Keynes and Belfast.
