Violently retch without physically being sick? My nausea is absolutely awful but most of the time I feel sick without actully throwing up. However, I do retch, sometimes several times in a row. Anyone else?

I had this up till about 13/14 weeks, it's awful! I kept thinking just be sick already and be done with it but oh no, dry heaving it was.

So glad that has passed now, you will feel better soon, how far along are you?

Yes, I had this until about 3 weeks ago (I'm 31 weeks now!)

Oh god, cant believe how long you had it Frank, hoping mine is similar to Sunny! I will be 9 weeks tomorrow, had it since week 6. No one else I know who is preganant had suffered from it, so was starting to get a bit alarmed! I am really hating it, spend half my life in the bathroom without actually being sick. It really hurts my throat as the dry heaves are so bad at times. Hope both yours are going better than mine!

Only thing that helped curb mine was to not let my stomach get empty - weird right? choc digestives, plain rich tea biscuits and plain pasta were the order of the day.

Promise it will get better, the tiredness and the heaving settles....... then comes the noxious paint melting gas

I have this at the moment and it's mainly smells that sets me off but also have a week stomach and seeing gross things also makes it happen.

I had this from 7 to 18 weeks...I'm 21 weeks now and get it very occasionally, mainly when hungry or eaten too fast.

I threw up as well but most of it was retching! It is horrible

I had this from 6 weeks until around 15 weeks, I never seemed to have anything in particular that triggered it, it was just constant I hope yours eases off soon as it's not nice at all

Thanks everyone, weirdly glad to know its not just me, though obviously wish it hasnt happened to any of us.

I am suffering with sickness and nausea so much, it is ruining my pregnancy so far. I was so desperate to get pregnant and for the past 3 weeks almost wish I wasn't. Desperately hoping it eases off soon. As its so early we've also only told parents so it feels a bit lonely and isolating as well .

Sorry for a bit of an off topic rant!

No not at all.

I was exactly the same. Took us a long time and 1 MC, I found the whole first trimester totally stressful and completely exhausting (mentally and physically) it's a really tough time.

Your wrecked and can't tell anyone why, it's lonely as hell and then there is all the worry of the 12 week scan - time kinda stands still. 1st trimester sux ass!!!!

I promise though, as soon as you get to the scan, stop freaking out and see how amazing your little baby is the whole world changes and it gets a whole load better

Chin up lady, one day at a time and just keep imagining you cradling that little perfect person x

Thank you Sunny for the lovely message. Very glad to have joined mumsnet, found it brilliant so far. We've had an early scan where we heard the heartbeat, which has definitely been the highlight!

How far along are you? When are you due?

21 weeks now, had our scan today :) managed to tough out the do you want to know the sex question - I didn't cave and it's still a surprise, shocked I didn't give in

We had an early scan too, it's really reassuring, just wait till your next one! Our early scan baby looked like a blob with a little flickering on the screen, the 12 week is insane! You see a proper little baby bobbing around in there.

I found it really hard to take it in that there is a baby in there, still do sometimes but the odd kick and punch soon reminds me otherwise!

Once you get to 12 weeks it's much easier, you can tell people, openly talk about it and a lot of the worry goes, it's great! Just keep plodding away mrs, you will get there and it's awesome!!!

If it's any consolation, Hollyhop, I found the nausea peaked at around 8 weeks so you might be through the worst of it very soon. Mine also went by about 13-14 weeks. As well as the nausea itself, I found the fear of vomiting in a public place ( I used to commute by train) almost as bad as the nausea. Once I realised that I wasn't actually going to puke even though I felt like it, I found it easier to handle. Good luck and hope it gets better soon.

I have about 10 retches per vomit. It's also totally unpredictable - feel totally fine then I'm suddenly heaving. Last week I retched so hard I burst a load of capillaries around my eyes

I had this...sounds gross but I used to find the only way to manage it was drink a pint of squash and make myself sick. I had something in my stomach to actually bring up and the relief of no nausea post vom was amazing!!! Not suggesting this but it helped after weeks of dry heaving = stomach cramps

I dry wretched loads! Hardly ever threw up properly unless i got sick of the nausea and would stick my fingers down my throat! I used the retching to my advantage though as if I felt nauseous in the morning it would make me late for work, until I became more efficient with my time and dry retched my way to work in the car to help the nausea. It did back fire once though

I had to tell work really early as I was in such a bad way. I was deathly pale, had to run for the loo approximately 20 times a day and had to have time off on days I was puking up bile.

I was pregnant with my DD 9 years ago and thought 'never again this is horrific', and genuinely wrote having anymore kids off. Met my DH 4 years later, told him I didn't want more children, then after 3 years decided I'd like to give DD a sibling and DH a child. STUPID ME!

I did warn my husband and boy did he find out the horror ;) seems this pregnancy is so much worse too! I assumed it was another girl as I was so sick but it's a boy who's doing this!

It really is isolating and very very lonely, but there are many of us here so post away and we will empathise with you!

Really is worth it!

Thanks all for your messages of support, really appreciate it. I've basically been off work since I found out as its been so bad. I am relatively new as well so its not been ideal. I have tried a few times to put my fingers down my throat and dont understand why I'm mainly not physically sick as I have been managing to eat here and there.

Quite worried about going on holiday next week and being sick/dry heaving on the plane. Oh the irony. We booked to go to NY for Christmas as so upset at not being pregnant, turns out I was pregnant when we bloody booked it . Anyone else done long haul during the time? Any tips?!
