Self employed maternity pay

I'm pregnant with dc2 and both employed and self employed. I don't think I'm earning enough from my employer to get maternity pay (and I'm on a rolling temporary contract) but I remember from last time that I had to pay a certain kind of NI to get maternity allowance. I also remember that the ladies on Mumsnet were better informed that the boy on the HMRC helpline Grin what do I have to make sure I'm paying? I think the system has changed a bit

I would call revenue and ask, they also have maternity calculator, use it to check your employer entitlement.

It's class 2 national insurance that you have to have paid. The hmrc website is helpful and there is a maternity allowance helpline number there.
