Strep b in pregnancy

I have been diagnosed with strep B following a water infection and have read up about it, not realising how serious it can be to a newborn. I'm so glad it has been detected before birth.

I am now on antibiotics and will be on IV antibiotics when I go into labour to reduce the risk of it being passed onto my Son at birth.

Has anyone else had this? If so what was the outcome?

I had Strep B with my first. I had IV antibiotics as soon as I got to hospital (my waters broke before contractions started so they told me to go straight in). Other than having a canula in my hand, and not being able to have a water birth, the actual labour was completely normal. When my daughter was born she was checked very regularly for the first few hours, and then every hour for 48 hrs (if I remember rightly). We could then go home!

I was actually very pleased it had been detected. I wasn't checked for it when pregnant with my second, and remember feeling worried that I may have it but no one would know!

Try not to worry - it's a great thing they've detected it and the antibiotics during birth (and check ups after birth) will keep you and baby safe :)
