Hi
I'm very distressed, I've had 2 positive tests a week apart and several negatives between and since. Help

Hiya Sophie,

you cannot have a false positive test so my guess would be the negative result will be due to lower levels of HGC this could be down to the time of day that you have taken your test. Can I ask did you get a positive on an early testing kit? these are much more sensitive. if you are unsure then a trip to the doctors should clear up any doubts you have. The other thing to consider is some tests particularly red/pink dye tests do produce evap lines which can fool you in to believing they are positive (I am not suggesting that you are not pregnant) did the second line show up in the time frame the results should be read?

Sounds more to me that a congratulations is in order x

Hi, they were all digital tests. I have had negatives today too but it's been about 2 weeks :(

I've had this. I'm afraid that for me it was an early miscarriage. My GP offered me a blood test to say for sure whether I was still pregnant. I would ring your surgery in the morning and ask for this test. Fingers crossed for you. Flowers

I've asked the dr and he wasn't really interested the told me to wait two weeks, but I'd be 6 weeks if I was pregnant.

OP I believe you have started a couple of threads on this topic, I understand that you are very worried but you have two choices, either do as the GP has advised and wait for either a positive hpt or your period, or pay privately for bloods or an early scan. We cannot tell if you are pregnant or not and false hope will do you no favours.

Sophie can I just say that digital tests have never worked for me I have been pregnant 3 times 2 miscarriages and 1 daughter even when I was 3 months pregnant it have me a negative result me and my friend were howling with laughter I had my scan pic in one hand and a neg pregnancy test in the other. digital ones are not sensitive they require quite alot of HGC to get a result. Go and get yourself a superdrug test those things are great or a first response.. go old school with it these digital tests are not all they are cracked up to be. I am not trying to give you false hope x

It could be that you've had a chemical pregnancy or an early miscarriage. I assume there has been no bleeding? I think all you can do is wait and see I'm afraid.

I keep reading on these threads that you can't have a false negative, but you can - a chemical pregnancy. It's a form of early miscarriage. Fertilisation has occurred and HCG is released but it is not a viable pregnancy so the HCG levels drop. So you can get a positive then a negative result.

Agree with PPs, digital tests are less sensitive than some others, they tend to need a higher HCG level than other types.

I'm sorry but from what you've said OP, it's probably not good news. If your AF doesn't come soon, consider getting blood tests done.
