So... sorry to sound so clueless!

Im 16 weeks and I've put on too much weight so far as just been eating what I want all day long and I'm constantly hungry but I can't carry on like this so today I started my new healthy eating type plan. This is today's food:

Breakfast - 2x shredded wheat with semi skimmed milk
AM snack - apple and Brazil and walnuts
Lunch - carrot sticks with hummus
PM snack - packet of crisps (I know, not good!)
Dinner - Jacket potato with beans

This isn't enough protein though is it? And only 3 portions fruit/veg

Any nutrition pros out there care to give me some advice? I guess I need to get some meat in there once a day for protein and iron or something? And swap the pm crisps for another fruit?

Thanks in advance, hoping someone will help!

This is last Fridays food for comparison (a pretty standard day):

Breakfast - shredded wheat
AM - doughnut (always some sort of occasion for cakes/biscuits in my work!) And then a cornish pasty Blush
Lunch - 6" ham subway (all the salad though...!)
PM - 2 oranges
Dinner - homemade chicken curry with greenbeans

Moonlight I've been eating what I want too and no matter what I tell myself I don't have any will power to change! Here's what I've eaten today... I'm embarrassed by it!

Breakfast- bagel with marmite and a homemade banana milkshake with almond milk (only way I get dairy!)
Lunch- left over tuna gnocchi from last night and two satsumas
Dinner- Thai green curry
Snacks/treats- 8 (yes 8!) celebration chocolates, a mince pie and a cornetto!!

Honestly I have to stop!!

Looking at your planned food for today it looks like your lunch is too small, could you eat some protein there like some chicken salad? And maybe add some meat to dinner?

I've put on too much weight and I'm 22 weeks now. I really need to change my diet fast!!

I had to see a dietician as my BMI is high and she was mainly concerned to see if I am getting enough calcium and eating beef for iron. She advised me to swap crisps and chocolate for fruit and yoghurts but otherwise to take good wholesome food like weetabix, lasagne and cottage pie, wants to see me drinking milk and eating cheese and so on. I think you'll be really hungry eating just carrot sticks for lunch. If you're hungry, eat - if you're hungry your baby is hungry.

Oh and she gave me a scolding for not drinking enough water Blush

Im 10weeks pg and I've put on half a stone due to managing sickness with endless amounts of buttery toast and being too knackered to move. Now I'm feeling more myself again I'm exercising again (4-5 mile run 3 times a week, 2 spin classes and 2 weights sessions) and I'm doing my best to eat properly.
Today I've eaten:
Breakfast: 2 scrambled eggs, 1 rasher turkey bacon, mushrooms
Mid morning: Alpen light bar and a satsuma
Lunch: Bolognaise with courgetti and broccoli
3.30pm: Protein shake
Tea: Chicken breast, salad and half a sweet potato.
Bedtime: glass of skimmed milk

I may indulge in an apple and a bit of sugar free jelly once I've finished arsing around on mums net my assignment.

This is pretty much the diet i followed last year and i lost a stone over a couple of months but now I'm a lazy student i was a bit more active then.

Im studying nutrition in Uni and I'm all too conscious of giving my body what it needs. You need to fuel your body for the changes that are happening so don't deprive yourself of anything.

JPEG the milkshake confuses me... almond milk isn't dairy?

Oysterbabe · 12/12/2016 20:57

I'd think I was starving to death if lunch was just hummus and carrot sticks.

MoonlightMojitos · 12/12/2016 22:03

Haha the carrot sticks and hummus was actually really filling! I had a few other bits with me (some rice cakes, a cup a soup and breakfast biscuits) but didn't need them as I wasn't hungry! When I say carrot sticks it was 4 whole large carrots.

tea I drink a lot of milk (love the stuff!) So I think I'm ok there. I usually drown my cereal in milk and drink it after and quite often have a glass of milk with a slice of toast during the night if I wake up hungry which I often do a few nights a week. Yogurts sound like a good idea rather than just fruit too thanks.

mama that sounds very healthy! I can't really do anything like the exercise you can as I wasn't before I got my BFP. Just hearing it sounds exhausting! All I can manage is a gentle walk and a bit of pilates.

I also drink a lot of water so fine there:)

Thanks for advice. I think I'll start having a salad for lunch every day with tuna, ham, chicken or egg etc so I'm getting protein as well as the veg.

jpeg that doesn't sound like a lot to me at all! Probably about the same as me usually! The main meals seem fine, it's just the snacks isn't it? That's the same as me. Literally every day at work at the moment there are cakes, chocs, biscuits etc. You've given me a craving for a a banana milkshake!

bleugh I mean calcium... I can't eat dairy so it's a struggle to get enough!

It's just the sugary snacks and treats for me that I desperately need to get rid of. It's hard at xmas!! I am much more hungry since I have hit 20 weeks and some days I just can't eat enough!!

Crazycatlady123 · 13/12/2016 06:18

31 weeks pregnant here and on an average day...

Breakfast
Poached eggs, tomatoes, beans and a cheeky sausage if I fancy, and a fruit smoothy. If not a cooked breakfast, then a scone or toast with butter and jam.

Lunch
Sandwich, crisps or whatever delight is on offer in our work dining room and a dessert or bar of chocolate 😳

Dinner
Something hearty like spag bol, cottage pie with veg, or one of those easy to cook dinners from Sainsbury's with veg

Followed by mince pie and ice cream or something else sweet!!

I work for a company that specialises in great food, so I'm spoilt at work and it's massively subsidised. I need to stop eating like a pig, but it's so hard. 🙈

oldlaundbooth · 13/12/2016 17:30

Doesn't sound like you're eating enough to me.

I've had a massive bowl porridge made with milk, two ryvita with peanut butter and banana for breakfast. Large coffee.

Half a jacket spud, bit of rice, and chicken, lentil and veg curry for lunch. Hot chocolate.

Dinner is lasagne. Apple for snack if I need it.

arbrighton · 13/12/2016 18:18

I'm managing to eat a bit less of the beige carb now I'm 10 weeks as feeling less sick during the day but oh man I wish I could exercise.

However this tiredness is unbelievable- I feel like the days when I was rowing 4 sessions on a weekend then sleeping on a sunday afternoon, just doing the day to day stuff. Fresh air and a short walk with the dog is as good as it gets just now and maybe one session a week in my boat, while I've not got a bump.
