I had a growth scan 1 week again and my baby's tummy was measuring large around 75th centile so this week I had another scan and it's 95th centile and now it's larger than his head! They asked about GD but don't Seam overly concerned as I will be delivering in around 3 weeks. I'm terrified my baby is going to come out with a HUGE tummy!!! Anyone had this and everything be ok by delivery?

I haven't but growth scans are notourios for being unrealiable. Honestly if the doctors aren't worried then don't panic.

Nikki2ol6 · 09/12/2016 07:48

Yes I will try not worry, I see my midwife in a couple of hours I'm sure she can ease my mind

My DD had this! It was massive so had many scans to keep an eye on it and to see if it would get smaller. She also had something showing as white as bone inside her belly. I had an amniocentesis the same day but it all came back clear. A few weeks later on another scan her belly returned to a normal size. Still have no idea what it was but she was born perfectly healthy.

We have had an amnio at 21 weeks as our baby has major heart defects and all results were clear. I think perhaps I will just cut down on the cookies and kebab Blush

I have exactly the same issue, I don't have gd but was told to cut down on the sugar anyway (I was going through a bit of a cream doughnut stage at the time!). I think as long as the head is measuring normally that's the most important bit right? Bellies are pretty squishy!

Nikki2ol6 · 09/12/2016 09:52

Yea I was thinking the same the head is all hard but the belly isn't so should just come out but they were saying it could be a forceps job

I had the same thing. DD was perfectly normal when she was born, and still is!! The stomach measurement is extremely difficult for the sonographer, as it's subjective depending on where they click, if the baby's just taken in water or just had a wee etc.

Eat healthily with less sugar as it's good for you, but don't worry too much about the scan if the doctors aren't worried. They're really not all that accurate :)

My last baby had a really big tummy too. He was over 10lb when born, so your baby is probably going to be a nice size.

I wouldn't worry about. 😊

NEmum · 09/12/2016 11:14

I had the same thing, test for GD was clear & my baby came 3wks early @ a very average 6lbs6. He is totally in proportion, remember scans are also a "guess" & not 100% accurate.

X

Babies wee in utero? Shock

myoriginal3 · 09/12/2016 12:55

What's a gtt?

smEGGnogg · 09/12/2016 13:16

I'm the same. I've had my polyhydramnios confirmed now and have extra scans. Baby's abdomen has consistently measured larger through them all so far. They're not worried about it though as I've already had a big baby last time. I've had tests to find out why I have the extra water including a gtt. Everything has come back normal. I'm 28 weeks today and the baby is 2lb 6oz.

smEGGnogg · 09/12/2016 13:21

Yes babies wee in utero. When renal systems develop babies begin to control the level of amniotic fluid by swallowing and weeing. What they swallow is apparent in their first poo: meconium. That's why it's such a horrible colour and consistency, they swallow dead skin/hairs etc.

A gtt is a glucose tolerance test. It's a fasting blood test used to test your sugar levels the same as someone who is diabetic. Then you drink a sugary drink and 2 hours later have blood taken again. The levels will either indicate normal or abnormal blood sugar confirming gestational diabetes or not.

Nikki2ol6 · 09/12/2016 13:23

My baby is apprently 6lbs 11!!!! He was 5lb 15 a week ago so he's gained a lot in a week if the scans are accurate which I don't think they are because his femur has shrunk Shock

Does anyone know how long it will take for th results of my GTT?

OP posts:
Kintan · 09/12/2016 13:26

The midwife called me about my GTT results the following day, so you shouldn't have to wait too long.

Cottagecosy · 09/12/2016 13:33

Hi OP just wanted to come on to say that I am in exactly the same situation a week ahead of you. Belly big (90 something percentile) head normal overall measuring top end of normal. GGT normal (got results same day) and they're essentially saying that there's nothing to worry about. Seeing consultant this week but essentially all they have said so far is big belly= big shoulders= increased risk of getting stuck/ intervention. Not ideal but given the inaccuracy of growth scans I figure i shouldn't worry too much. Good luck and hope ggt comes back for you too.

smEGGnogg · 09/12/2016 13:46

Yes, the midwife told me that they have the gtt results back the next day so if there was a problem you'd know very quickly.

Nikki2ol6 · 09/12/2016 14:20

My baby's head is on 40th centile so not large and the rest of him is around 40th too! Except his huge tummy on 95!
