Am I right in being peeved?

So, I told my bosses at work that I am 5 weeks pregnant. I have a very physical job in a supermarket, this is my first pregnancy and tbh, absolutely everything makes me nervous. They've basically told me to do jobs that don't involve doing alot, so I've been sitting at the till. All the managers have been briefed to make allowances and I haven't yet had a risk assessment. Yesterday a colleague, who is the same level as me got pissed off and starated shouting at me because I hadn't done some jobs she had told me to do. 1) it was a job requiring some heavy lifting which I wasn't comfortable doing. 2) she never asked or even told me to do it. 3) she is the exact same level as me so i don't know why she thinks she can boss me around anyways.
So I refused to do the job and she got angry and shouted at me, I told her the managers were aware of my situation and that I'm not to do any heavy lifting. Didn't specify the pregnancy. But she continued to be irate. Very awkward now :(

Tough one, because most people don't even know they're pregnant that early and so carry on as usual doing physically demanding things. I worked until 8.5 months pregnant doing a very physical job involving a lot of moving and lifting and as long as it is done safely and with proper risk assessments in place then there is no reason why you can't really, unless you have been specifically told by your doctor or midwife not to. So first I'd be insisting on risk assessments and maybe some manual handling training to show you how to lift/move safely and correctly rather than saying I can't do it at all. Congratulations btw

Your work colleague is only being funny because they don't know what is going on.

Unfortunately people aren't going to be sympathetic until they know the full story. Until then they will all likely moan about you.
