Hi everyone,

I read on the Baby centre website that c70% of couple who can conceive naturally will do so in 6 months. My husband and I have been trying for 7 months with no luck and I think I'm about to find out that we've not conceived this month. A lot of our friends are getting pregnant at the moment and it's just not happening for us. How long did it take you to conceive? Please don't feel bad about responding if you got pregnant v quick, I just want to hear from other people!

Thanks for any responses!

Hi there - this thread is a little old. If you want to find out how long it takes to get pregnant, we’ve got more information here. MNHQ

We tried for 6 month and unfortunately ended in a early miscarriage, we fell pregnant again straight after I didn't even have a period it was a huge shock Shock

TurquoiseDress · 09/12/2016 21:38

My first was straight after stopping the combined pill (which I had taken for over a decade) had a withdrawal bleed, was expecting a long wait for my real period so didn't test until I was well into the first trimester.

I was in my mid-30s

Did not take any supplements or folic acid at the time, continued with my morning coffees and teas during the day.
Also did not stop drinking wine until I tested positive!

LO is now 2 years old.
2nd pregnancy was similar- stopped the pill, withdrawal bleed then waiting for ages for my period...and tested positive.
Again, no supplements or folic acid and lots of wine etc (until finding out at about 6 weeks)
Unfortunately this one ended in MMC at 13 weeks- this was over the summer.

I am 38 and we are on cycle 5 of TTC Sad and I suspect that my good luck has run out!

Good luck to you all

3 months after I came off the pill I conceived. We DTD every other day from day 8 to 16 (ish!) and in the last month we used pre seed lubricant as apparently others can kill the swimmers although I'd only read this in the third month of trying!!

kikiroo · 09/12/2016 21:58

It happened the first month we tried, which was a big shock as we never really used any contraception and did the (sorry tmi) 'pull out method' for the 10 years we've been together and never had any pregnancies.

We talked about all the other possibilities of having children in case it wasn't for us (I know.. I like to be prepared). So me being aware of my fertile window we went ahead and my god what a shock it was that morning when I peed on a stick.

We realise now that once the baby is born we've probably got to be a bit more careful!

One thing we did though was we started taking his and her preconception pills a couple of weeks before. I'm not sure if that helped us out at all as we started taking them before we started TTC but worth a shot. Good luck OP! It will happen, have faith xx

Good luck with you

1st pregnancy conceived 1st month but m/c at 6/40

2nd pregnancy (DS1) conceived immediate after m/c

3rd pregnancy conceived after 13 months then m/c at 13/40

4th pregnancy conceived 5 months after m/c, currently 20/40.

It's a mysterious game, trying to make a baby... best of luck to you, OP!

3 weeks Shock I was so not ready, my mum took 2 years, and my aunt even longer, so I expected the same!

therootoftheroot · 09/12/2016 22:05

ds1-3 years
ds2-3 months

TheCaptainsMum · 09/12/2016 22:14

Had coil removed, had period a week later. I conceived the cycle after that.

It was a bit of a surprise that it was so quick, having been sexually active for nearly 20 years and never had even a sniff of a pregnancy before that. I genuinely thought it would take months or years before being upduffed. I am very lucky.

Daytona79 · 09/12/2016 22:19

1st cycle trying both children

We were very lucky

MuggleWuggle · 09/12/2016 22:26

Dc1 at 35yrs, 8th month, dc 2 at 38- 2 months

HerbieFan · 09/12/2016 22:30

3 years before we fell pregnant and I'm 26. I think DH thinks he's now has a lifetime's worth of sex (but I don't!)

Ohyesiam · 09/12/2016 22:41

1 St baby, 40 minutes
2nd baby, 3 minutes. He was out of practice.

scrumptiouscrumpets · 10/12/2016 12:50

DS 1 - second cycle
DS 2 - first cycle

I have been using the fertility awareness method for a decade now, so I know I ovulate late. It might have taken longer otherwise.

BlueBlueSkies · 10/12/2016 14:25

Pregnancy 1. One month (DS1)
Pregnancy 2. 2 years later. Not planned, MC at 13/40.
Pregnancy 3. One year after MC. One Month (DD1)
Pregnancy 4. 5 years after DD. Not planned. MC at 9/40
Pregnancy 5. Six months after MC. Not planned. MC at 6/10

The not planned pregnancies were wanted but we had not been trying, we had been using the rhythm method as contraception. After the last two MC, I had a coil fitted as even though I wanted another baby I did not want to go through a MC again.

Wibblewobble100 · 11/12/2016 07:59

Pregnancy 1- 1 month DS
Pregnancy 2- 6 months, MC at 5 weeks
Pregnancy 3- 2 months after MC, MMC discovered at 12 weeks

SweepTheHalls · 11/12/2016 08:03

9 months , 6 months and about 30.months. No reason for any of the delays either

mumof2kiddos · 11/12/2016 10:49

DD - Just a single try after 2 months of forced abstinence!
DS - 2 months at the most.

JoffreyBaratheon · 11/12/2016 11:53

8 years, with no 1. Turned out I had undiagnosed (because I never went to the dr) PCOS. Had Clomid and was in and out of the local Women's Hospital to get help - took a year trying to get No 2. The other 3 - all accidents. Smile

Timefor2 · 11/12/2016 11:58

9 months and then 10 months. Didn't realise I ovulated so late in the cycle, conceived first month of using ovulation sticks so definitely recommend trying that if you haven't already!

Catlady100 · 11/12/2016 12:15

Hi - 1st cycle both times which was a surprise as I'm 37. 1st ended in miscarriages though. 11+4 for this one and have my fingers crossed. Good luck, hope it happens for you soon. Cat x

ChristmasAccountant · 11/12/2016 12:18

4 years with the first, 8 months with the second (2 miscarriages in that time).

FlyOnTheWall89 · 23/11/2021 12:21

@user1480198351 long shot that you're still active but did you get your BFP? I am 7 cycle in at the moment and just feel like it will never ever happen.

Phoenix2021 · 23/11/2021 13:15

1st pregnancy- unplanned/ not trying not preventing- ectopic
2nd pregnancy at age 25- 4 years of trying including- 5 iui's, 2 IVF cycles- 2nd IVF was successful with twins.
3rd pregnancy at 35 unplanned- miscarriage at 6 weeks
4th pregnancy at 35- pregnant on 3rd cycle after miscarriage- miscarried again at 6 weeks
5th pregnancy at 35 - pregnant again by 3rd cycle after miscarriage- I'm currently 27 weeks with a girl.

Basically had complete unexplained infertility in my 20s and lost my left fallopian tube to ectopic. Did everything you can think of in terms of natural interventions but could not conceive with IVF.

In my mid 30s- conceiving roughly every 3rd cycle naturally trying despite having only one fallopian tube.

Phoenix2021 · 23/11/2021 13:16
  • should be 'without ivf'
NatMoz · 23/11/2021 14:37

I was 31. Started in June 2020 and fell pregnant in Jan 2021 which ended in miscarriage mid February. We then tried again straight away and I got pregnant in March 2021 before I'd even had a period.

I'm now due in 3 weeks.
