Shower after c section?

Just wondering how soon after my ELCS I will be able to get in the shower?!

My op is sometime between 8 and 12, will I get a shower by that evening or will it be the next morning? How quickly will my catheter come out?

The thought of no shower til the next day stresses me right out Confused

Thanks again all.

Leaving for the hospital in less than 3 hours, been mumsnetting since 2 so it's gonna be a looooong day lol!

Already gasping for a cup of tea, roll on this afternoon!

Hang on, I can drink after the operation right? Don't have to wait stupid time for a cup of tea do I?! 😯

I'm currently laid in a hospital bed having had an EMCS at 20:17 last night. Honestly, you won't give a shiny shit about a shower. I'm happy to wait until I get home to be honest so I don't have to show anyone else my bits!

mum2Bomg · 06/12/2016 03:23

I was allowed to sip some water but no tea yet... It's actually quite serious surgery and some of the meds they give you make you shiver all over.

Good luck!! Soon you'll have your baby!

I had my op at 9am, catheter out at about 10pm followed by the best shower ever. Left for home at around 2pm the day after. The ward was extremely and unusually quiet though so unsure if that was normal

passthewineplz · 06/12/2016 03:29

You'll probably have the catheter in overnight, as you need to pass a certain amount of urine within 12 hours in order to make sure that your bladder is ok.

So, as the 12 hours will be over night, you won't drink enough to pass enough urine within the 12 hours, so you'll have to have the catheter back in and start the 12 hours again once it's out.

You'll not be able to shower until the catheter is out. But you'll get a clean up in between, and your pads changed ect.

You'll be able to eat and drink once you're back on the ward.

Hope everything goes well!

Was also going to say, I think that people forget it's major surgery. The spinal block/epidural takes a few hours to wear off, so your legs will be numb for a few hours, so you can't get out of bed even if you want to.

You can try and get mobile once the spinal/epidural has worn off, but you're better waiting until the catheter is out.

I'm pretty resigned it's going to be on Weds then, I'll survive I suppose!

I'm absolutely shattered before I even start and the ward will be so noisy! I want to get up now but 17 month old is next to me, had croup 3 weeks ago and has been shit at night since, excellent timing!

Honestly you'll feel a bit better after a clean up, and clean pants and night wear on.

Now, time to get off of here and try and get some rest! 😊

Whatthefreakinwhatnow · 06/12/2016 04:57

Gave up on that ages ago! I'm showered and dressed and sorting last bits for older kids overnight bags for PILs.

Got to leave at 6 Shock All getting a bit real now Sad

Good luck Whatthe! It really won't be as bad as you're expecting. And you'll have a livvsby to distract you!

Re eating/drinking....
I had magical NHS tea and toast about 2hrs after my section. I actually ate 8 slices of toast and 3 cups of tea!

Redpony1 · 06/12/2016 14:13

Good luck OP!

Pengweng · 06/12/2016 14:21

I had an emcs at 11.40pm and my catheter fell out! Around lunch time the next day so i was allowed up as no point putting it back in. I then got up and had a shower and got shouted at gor not telling anyone what i was doing. Opps
I imagine you will have cath in over night but try and get moving as soon as the will let you.

mouldycheesefan · 06/12/2016 14:29

There was only one shower on the ward and it was in high demand so it was a case of waiting till it was free. I did end up in my own en suite room which was much better. Neither were very clean though.

mouldycheesefan · 06/12/2016 14:30

My section was at 11.30am don't think I had anything to eat till next day. No toast was offered nor wanted.

mum2Bomg · 06/12/2016 14:45

Waiting to go home with first DD who was born at 20:17 yesterday - should be any time now as the Dr has signed discharge forms and just waiting for anti-coagulants. Yippee! I'm going home!!!

Hope it went well OP Flowers
