Hello ladies, was wondering if anyone has been for an early private scan in London? Im 5 weeks and was hoping to go for one as this is my first baby. Just for reassurance really. Where did you go? How pregnant were you? How much was it? What was your experience? Any advice gratefully received Smile

FMC are good, £99 for a viability scan I think. You would be better off waiting until 7-8 weeks though as you'll be lucky to see anything at all at 5 weeks. 7-8 you will almost certainly see a little flickering heartbeat.

WantingBaby1 · 01/12/2016 20:19

Thanks duck, are there ways of telling viability if you're too early to see a heartbeat? I was hoping to go around 7 wks but don't want to be too early. Difficult to plan with Christmas being so close to my 8 week date.

Baby bond are good too. Lots if clinics and you can you book on line. They won't do it till you're 7 weeks though.

GreedyDuck · 01/12/2016 21:24

Not sure tbh, I think they can sometimes see a fetal pole in the sac, but if it's too early for the heartbeat I'm not sure it would be worth paying for. I think 7 weeks may be ok.

Last time I was referred for an early scan at 7+4 (as I'd had a missed miscarriage at 8 weeks previously) and you could see the flickering heartbeat, I am waiting it out until 8 and a bit weeks this time though (next week) to get a private scan as I figure the nearer to 12 weeks it is the more chance there is of the pregnancy working out - I am 42 though, so being especially cautious.

Would just like to know one way or another before Christmas. If it's bad news at least I'll be able to drown my sorrows! The last four weeks have dragged ridiculously slowly.

Barefootcontessa84 · 01/12/2016 22:51

Until there is a heartbeat, they can only see the sac, potentially the fetal pole, and ensure it is in the right place. It will still be termed an 'intrauterine pregnancy of unknown viability' (IPUV), i.e. it won't give you any reassurance. I would hold out until 8 weeks when there should be a heartbeat and things are a little further along.

DowntonDiva · 01/12/2016 22:56

Another recommendation for FMC. I went at 9 weeks. Think they will see you from 7 but not sure best to check.

Embra · 01/12/2016 22:57

I was extremely worried and my doc sent me for a scan at 5 weeks. You can not see heartbeat but they show you sac and yolk and do measurements. It's very re-assuring if you are worried. But if you can wait then probably better make one at 7 weeks.

Seahawk80 · 02/12/2016 12:24

I had a scan at 5 weeks due to cramps and bleeding. All they could say was that it was in the right place (i.e. Not eptopic) and looked ok for the dates. I then had an agonising 2 week wait to go back to check things are ok. I really don't think it's worth paying for a private scan until at least 7 weeks as you'll just need another 2 weeks later.

WantingBaby1 · 02/12/2016 13:54

Thanks ladies. I'll wait until I'm 7 weeks unless we have any developments before then.

wanting just saw that this was your post! Waves. Congratulations again!! I think waiting for 7 weeks is best unless anything happens that makes you worry. The good thing in London is that there are some good epus that you can self refer to if you do have any problems. Hopefully your baby will be less troublesome in giving you scares than mine has! I know it's hard to wait but really those 2 weeks between the 7 and 5 week scans were so hard, the 5 week scan didn't do anything to reassure me.

I had a private scan at my ultra baby in docklands as it's convenient for me but I wasn't that impressed. I have an appointment at FMC on Thursday for harmony so will let you know how it goes!

Thanks sea! Nice to see someone here from the ttc thread Smile

Wanting - just wanted to say I'd really reccomend FMC, they were great.

Hope all is good with you

WantingBaby1 · 10/12/2016 06:58

Thanks seahawk! I'm booked in with fmc week after next. I'll be 7+3. Struggling to wait that long! How r u doing?

That's good - it's v swanky there btw, I felt a bit underdressed in jeans!

I'm good thanks. Been feeling really sick and tired the last few days but it does come and go so at least it's not constant. Hoping that I'm in the final TWW for a while as we wait for harmony results and final scan. I thought the TWWs were supposed to end after a bfp!

How are you getting on?

GinIsIn · 10/12/2016 07:24

Hi, I see you are already booked with FMC - just to say, don't worry too much about it being too early to see anything. They are really lovely there and if you have your dates slightly out and don't see a heartbeat at the first appointment, they schedule you a free second scan to follow up a week or two later.

WantingBaby1 · 10/12/2016 07:56

Ah thanks for the info maxwell, good to know.

It seems the waiting never ends seahawk! How many weeks are you now? Fx for the results and hope the final scan goes well.

Thanks wanting I'm 11 weeks now! Have my NHS 12 week scan on thurs. All feels a bit more real! I think an early scan before Christmas will be really nice for you, hopefully will help you to relax and just enjoy it - easier said than done!

Fenella love the name!

WantingBaby1 · 10/12/2016 09:01

That's fab seahawk, will be thinking of you on Thursday!

Also fetal medical centre at 7 weeks. Saw the flickering, indicating a heartbeat, and felt v emotional after a Mmc and 18 long months of TTC. They were great. It Really reassured us. Although we knew it wasn't a cast iron guarantee, it helped with our jitters!

WantingBaby1 · 10/12/2016 18:05

That's great wine Smile
