Iv chosen a name for my little boy and have my heart set on it but

I'm 34 weeks and I have decided on a name I love and I keep calling my baby this name in my head and it fits to perfectly with our family and it's the name I want. But my partner hates it. I'm devistated and iv tried saying but I really like this name but he just says no! I don't know what to do Iv been searching for a name for months and this one just clicked and it's the one I'm set on...... did this happen to you too? What happened in the end?

DP was set on DS2s name and I hated it, really hated it. But as soon as I saw him it just fitted him perfectly. I can't imagine him having any other name now. (If I'd still hated it I would have stuck to my guns though and we'd have had to find a compromise)

I had a girls name I'd loved since I was little. DP hated it, so I binned it straight away. He was never going to come round.
My cousin allowed her DH to choose a name for their DS, even though she wasn't keen. Fortunately before they registered the birth she had a revelation. She realised that every time she told visitors the name she lowered her voice so people in the surrounding beds on the ward wouldn't hear! She finally told him they had to change it because she couldn't live being embarrassed by her child's name.
Don't make your DP agree to a name he's never comfortable using.

Is there a close compromise?

Ie if the name was Emily, look at Amelia, Emmeline etc. If name John, look at Jonah, jonas, Joel, Johannes etc

Both parents need to be happy with the name. And I think that's non-negotiable.

You might be carrying the baby but it isn't just yours

My Dp loved the name freddie when I was pregnant and I kept saying no but as another poster said when he was born he was just freddie suits he perfectly and I love it now couldnt imagine another name suiting him.. just have a back up name. If he doesnt like it you can't force him its his baby too im now 25 weeks pregnant and we cannot agree on a name at all but im sure we will find the perfect one. Good luck

How would you feel if he insisted on a name you hated?

Would you use a name you hated but he had his heart set on? Your answer to that is the answer to if you can use it or not.

When I had DD I was set on calling her Lucy. I told all of the midwives that was going to be her name and told all of my family. It wasn't until a few days later that DP told me he hated it. He didn't say why just that he hated it but would be willing to name her that if I really wanted to.
I changed it in the end because I wanted something we both liked.

He told me months after that the name Lucy brought back bad memories to him because his family always called him Lucy when he was upset as a child. "Don't be such a Lucy" kind of thing. I'm really glad we didn't call it her now.

Please respect your OHs opinion, there might be a reason why he doesn't like it.

You have to agree on a name. You can't go ahead and call the baby it in your head and use that as a reason as to why your dh should come around. Bump names are just for fun any way. My first dd was 'bear' and this one is 'shaniqua' (after the E4 duck - anyone remember that?) But we won't use those names in real life. Dh has chosen a name for this one and I like it so we are going with it. It just fits. I wouldn't go with a name I didn't like though.
