I hope everyone suffering from the Horrors of Hyperemesis will find this thread useful as a source of support and information.
There's no TMI on here - can't be by definition - and nobody should feel ashamed of moaning as much as they feel the need to.

MOH's wonderful website is full of useful information on this illness:
sites.google.com/site/pregnancysicknesssos
Another invaluable website is:
www.pregnancysicknesssupport.org.uk

If you need help in obtaining medication, this phone number is
brilliant:
024 7638 2020

Lastly, the NICE guidelines on treatment are useful:
cks.nice.org.uk/nauseavomiting-in-pregnancy#!scenario

I would like to thank everyone who has given such invaluable support and advice on this and on previous threads.

Remember when you are at your worst, 'This Too Shall Pass'. It really will.
So many women on this thread have thought they couldn't get through this, but they did.

Welcome IJump. Congratulations on your pregnancy, but sorry you've been so bad already. You're lucky to be on a good meds combo. The cyclizine haze usually lifts after your body gets used to it (a week or two, iirc). Drinks are so hard to manage, but I found any drinks more palatable when they were very very cold. Ice cold chocolate milk, or ice cold sparkling elderflower worked for me. There was a woman on here who found tiny sips of boiling hot water good. I think most HG sufferers find tepid/room temp drinks very difficult. Best foods tend to be bland and beige. Many swear by tinned peaches, which are also good because not too bad on the way back up. Hope you start to see some improvement soon.

Will catch up with everyone else tomorrow. Waves to the ever-lovely Lucinda.

LucyHMK · 11/12/2016 23:35

Ijump - yes, eat as soon as you're sick. It's the only time I can keep food down. I literally go from vomiting to eating within a few minutes. Same with the pills, I can't keep them down unless I'm sick first. If you do bring them back up again, make sure you can see the tablet, the you're allowed another dose.

I haven't been sick since lunch, but I don't feel great. I can feel him so low now & he'a pressed on my stomach which is making me feel really queasy.

Not quite sure how to break the bad news re the Ondansetron constipation, but I was drinking lactulose solution twice a day, & even then I just didn't go. Maybe once every few weeks & even then not much. You'd think that would make you ill, but it didn't. The consultant said it was just the effect of extreme dehydration.

Four - your description made me laugh. I'm sat here in bed, arms & legs in bandages, hips in a brace, bald patch on show, face bleeding from such dry skin, propped up on 3 pillows to stop the gastric reflux, & sick bowl nearby. Pregnancy is SO glamorous!! 😂

4 sleeps!! 🎉🎉🎉

moonoverthewater · 12/12/2016 08:04

Morning all.
Big hugs to everyone suffering Flowers
My heartburn meds are still working which has made such a difference. I have been having headaches since starting them but hoping that's a coincidence and just drinking as much fluids as i can

Ijumpalot · 12/12/2016 08:33

Thanks everyone, good advice. My drinks of choice are funnily enough...very cold chocolate milk or when I'm feeling really brave...ice cubes!
Have phoned my GP to ask for a referral to my local hyperemesis day unit this morning. I found it online and it sounds amazing, you just go in, get rehydrated and then home again! It's just getting your foot in the door that takes time. Once you've been you can self refer from then onwards.
Will keep trying the cyclizine...hopefully the brain fog will start to lift. Funny you mention the ondansetron constipation, I just realised last night I haven't been in 5 days....

CaptainWarbeck · 12/12/2016 08:49

Local hyperemesis day unit... that sounds amazing!! What a good idea

CaptainWarbeck · 12/12/2016 08:52

For those talking about taking medication through the night, I took stematil and ondansetron during the night last night, when I woke up anyway at about 2am and then 4am. Omg the difference in the morning! I felt near-human, instead of like my usual death-warmed-up. Even ate a decent breakfast for once.

I think previously everything I'd taken in the evening was just wearing off by the morning so I'm very tempted to start setting alarms in the night. It's a rubbish thought but I think worth it not to feel so horrible in the mornings.

Southlondon321 · 12/12/2016 09:15

Hi all. Thanks so much for your insight.

Four -
If you can cope with the poo(back)log you might see a different with just 4mg ondansetron in the morning.

Cyclizine still makes me tired and I've been taking for 8 weeks. I've had very similar experiences vomiting it up or it making me sick in the morning. I'm going to docs again today and thinking I might try and go to a super market afterwards...... ive only been escorted a few places other than home on my own.
Also I really hate eating and drinking in the morning.

What on earth is a HG clinic?!?!? It sounds like something dreams are made of!!!!
Latest issues are 1... I think my baby bump is now a poo bump and 2... splitting headaches!!!! Them being constant is new!

MotherofPearl · 12/12/2016 09:17

Cross-posted with Four last night. Great news about that meal! I forgot about custard as an HG food - some find it quite good in small amounts. I also liked little pots of jelly, especially because it's not too bad if it reappears! Lovely to be able to share the baby news with your grandma. Are you having another day or two at work this week?
Lucy, nearly there! Can't imagine how you must be counting down the minutes now!
South, as others say, one option for the Ondansetron constipation is glycerin suppositories from Boots. They're cheap and effective. There was a woman on here who had to resort to a home enema kit which she bought online. Sounds pretty drastic but seemed to do the trick.
How's everyone else today? Babyand, Peace, Moon, Captain, Robber and anyone else I've stupidly forgotten? Big waves to Lucinda, Light and Blondes.

MotherofPearl · 12/12/2016 09:20

Sorry, just seen a load of new posts from people I asked after! Stupid phone hadn't refreshed Blush

Southlondon321 · 12/12/2016 09:25

Just read the leaflet and ondansetron is responsible for both constipation and headaches.... only they have helped my nausea. Not very good at taking tablets since sickness and paracetamol sometimes don't go well .....!

Southlondon321 · 12/12/2016 09:27

Thanks Mother.
My phone is the same and never refreshes!!

I feel so sad to be facing poo problems... they themselves get me gagging and sick!

fourcorneredcircle · 12/12/2016 11:08

south I haven't really considered changing medication... I haven't seen a GP since my first diagnosis. They've issued repeat prescriptions and sick notes after I've phoned the surgery. Also, I already had piles TMI? (had them on and off since constipation from gall bladder meds years ago) so I'm loath to try Odanestron. As obviously, the constipation won't help.

MoP yes, I'm definitely going in on Wednesday for a couple of hours but my mum is going to drive me as she's off that day and quite fancies a look round the area. I may go in on Friday for the last day carol concert for a couple of hours too if I feel up to it. I've missed lots of special events this term and I know I'll feel better if I at least make it to one thing!

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/12/2016 11:09

fourcorneredcircle · 12/12/2016 11:14

blondes what a lovely picture! I always like the ones where they're pulling random poses with their body parts... it makes me imagine they are going "woahhhhh what is this... what will it do if I do this..." Xmas Smile Xmas Grin Xmas Wink

CaptainWarbeck · 12/12/2016 11:14

South do you have the dissolvable ondansetron or the tablets? I've tried both... if you try downing the dissolvable ones with water it gives you a splitting headache, doesn't seem to happen for me when I switched to the regular ones. Headaches are rubbish, hope you find something that sorts it.

Blondes how exciting to see your little one. Good clear scan picture too!

I have my 12 week scan tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing the baby that has been causing all this trouble! Today is the best day in a good while. I even managed to nip to the shops with DS to get stuff for dinner and didn't feel sick at all 💪🏻

MotherofPearl · 12/12/2016 11:51

Good work on the shop run Captain! Good luck for your scan tomorrow.
Blondes, that's a great scan picture, so clear!
Four, hope work goes well on Wednesday and that you manage to make it to the concert on Friday. My DS is in his first nativity on Wednesday (he's in reception) and I can't wait to go and see him!
IJump, that HG day clinic sounds amazing! My local EPU run something similar, but not a dedicated HG-only service.
South, I know you may not want to add to the meds intake, but can you try paracetamol for the headaches? Awful to be in so much discomfort. Did you say you were planning to go back to work this week?!
Moon, that's great news about the heartburn meds.
We've not heard from Castle for a while, hope all well.

Southlondon321 · 12/12/2016 12:24

Hi all,
The scan picture is sooo lovely!!! I truly find it amazing these babies are doing so well with their mummies in such an awful way and all the medication! Hope they grow big and strong so they can get good jobs and look after us! I feel like I'll forever be traumatised by some of my sick episodes that I'm changed forever! Lol.

Captain - I hadn't realised it would be different with another type. I had the tablets to swallow with water

Four - don't go for ondansetron but def go and see a doc. I've seen so many different ones but we are always reviewing to improve things.... biggest issue is mixed success!!!

Mother - to get rid of this headache I'm going to take a para and go to bed for the afternoon.

I heard the baby's heartbeat!!! It was so lovely, and emotional. I keep worrying as felt early flutters 2 weeks ago and nothing since. She sounds like a train (12 week scan revealed a girl!) he felt tummy and said she is growing well, a good size.

So.... today in my bag of tricks I have walked away with ....
Movicol -lemon and lime 😷 That's gonna be a sick bath. Might just buy some prunes
Prochlorazine - to replace ondansetron
Still taking the heartburn one and cyclizine.

You would laugh because I walked in with a note with all of your combos scribbled down. he wouldn't pay any attention to my research though lol

babyand · 12/12/2016 12:39

Hi everyone. Sorry. It been on In a while iv had a tough run of it. Between dd (16 months) getting bad tonsillitis and me back on the drip, I am just drained!! I will have a proper read through asap I hope everyone is doing as well as can be. I have my 12 week scan tomorrow, hoping she will tell me that placenta has taken over as 2 weeks ago at early scan the yolk sac was still doing all the work.

peaceloveandbiscuits · 12/12/2016 14:17

Hi hi, sorry to have worried anyone with my absence - it's just that I haven't been sick in so long now that I don't feel I belong here anymore! I actually stopped taking the promethazine on Thursday last week and haven't been sick since, so perhaps that's it for me now? I'm 15+2 today. It didn't stop until 38 weeks with DS, but it started a lot earlier this time, so it does go to show that each pregnancy is different! Anyway, I'm not counting my chickens just yet.
Hope everyone else is well Brew

fourcorneredcircle · 12/12/2016 14:57

That's great to hear peace - a true case of no news is good news Xmas Smile

Southlondon321 · 12/12/2016 18:38

Baby, hope you are ok and things getting better.

Peace!!! I'm so jealous and, more importantly, really happy for you. I'm 15 weeks tomorrow! Fingers crossed I'll catch up with you soon.

Just started the prochlorerazine/stemil 2 mins ago. I find this dissolving thing really weird!!! Hoping they dissolve quickly!!

LucindaE · 12/12/2016 18:47

Ijumpalot Welcome. Much sympathy. It's awful you were sent away with 4+ ketones. I'm shocked. Shock As you are a nurse and a veteran, you are the expert. Interestingly, ice cubes and sips of chocolate milshake are favourites on these threads. You've had great advice about food/drink from lovely MotherofPearl and others. I so agree about those tinned peaches (and pears for me) and their juice being bearable. Flat coke? Lollies? And many find Cuppa Soup good. Nibbbles of crisps, cheap ice cream, soda water?
Blondes I'll definitely do that for the next thread. That's a lovely scan picture.
moonoverthewater and SouthLondon Much sympathy over those headaches. I have heard Ondansetron can cause them, but also hormones. SouthLondon That's lovely about baby's heartbeat. What CaptainWarbeck says about the soluable ones giving her headaches but not the others is interesting.
fourcorneredcircle Sorry to hear of unavoidable bile runs. Glad the 'dry cracker' trick helps with the others. Blackcurrent flavoured squash is a new drink to be mentioned on these threads! Glad you can swill that to keep that dehydration at bay.Never worry about tmi on here!
babyand Oh dear, sorry to hear about dd's tonsilitis and your admisson. Was that another one, oh dear? What meds do they have you on now?
peaceloveandbiscuts That's lovely news and it's always nice for those suffering badly to hear from those who feel human again. As a veteran you are always immensely welcome on these threads.
Lucy Poor you, that is such a dismal picture, and I am glad you will soon be going up the drawbridge of the Pink Castle.
Apologies for anyone overlooked.

Hi ladies!
Firstly I am soooo impressed how brave you guys have been!
I feel a bit of a fraud being on here as vomiting is not my issue just 24 hours crippling nausea. Like the type you get when you have had lots too many and you are waiting in bed for inevitable to come!

I find it really difficult as at work everyone has had a baby already in their lives so it is coming across as I am being a bit of a wimp. TBH the continual non relenting nausea is really getting me down. Today is the first day I have taken off sick, and I think that how tired I am directly correlates to how I feel.

I am 8 weeks and I would appreciate any advice!

Thanks in advance everyone! Xxxx

Blondeshavemorefun · 12/12/2016 20:30

Parsnip welcome. Sometimes the nausea is worse then the sick

Peace yah for feeling better. Hope you stay sick free.

I vary from being fine for a week or two then several sickness sessions and 5/10 retching

I keep saying it but not as bad as I was . So I'm grateful to feel ok most days

Tho lost dinner tonight. Seems to be one day on off at mo

Southlondon321 · 12/12/2016 20:43

Nausea is not good. It's what makes everything so hard to cope with. When you are sick that's bad but if no nausea youcould just eat and drink. So be really careful parsnip, you could end up like us all dehydrated! It will be worth seeing your doc.

Guys, how on earth do you cope with stencil/prochlorazine????? It is so utterly revolting and still hasn't disolved 2 hours later. I've had to have squash to wash taste from teeth (which your not meant to do!!) and drank a whole pint. Feel really really sick again from it being so disgusting!!!!!!!
