Anyone had a scan at six weeks? (Specifically, 6+2 from LMP.) What is there to see?

Basically a blob! They will point out certain things, but to me it was a sack with a blob in and potentially not a heartbeat as it can be too early.

DamsonGinIsMyThing · 24/11/2016 20:11

I had a scan at approx 5weeks 5 days and all that was visible was the gestational sac and yolk sac. If you have a google of '6 week ultrasound' there's quite a lot of info. Hope you're ok.

I'm fine - been asked to go in tomorrow due to previous history of early MC. Which I will do, but not sure it'll be worth it!

By which I mean, I'm not sure that seeing a blob will tell us anything other than that I'm pregnant. Whereas in a week's time, a heartbeat is more likely.

I had an early scan with DS3 to determine length of pregnancy as I got pg while breastfeeding DS2 and had no periods.
I was told I was 6 w pg, but on the 12 week scan they adjusted EDD by a week so I was only 5 weeks pg.
I saw a little circle and a tiny dot inside.

Yes me too due to a bleed. At 5+5 - just a sac (or 2 in my case) and the measurement of each sac. They didn't tell me whether there was a yoke sac and it was too early to see a heartbeat. Made me an appointment to go back in 2 weeks time.

Nikki2ol6 · 24/11/2016 20:16

I seen a sac, yolk sac, a Tiny blob and heartbeat. And a heartbeat. He measured 4.5mm and i was dated end of the 5th week. So not quite as far as you

I had one today, I'm 7+5 (have exact dates due to ovulation tests and bbt)but scan was a blob with a pulsing heartbeat. They measured 6+5 but think there's a margin for error with baby being so tiny.

We got photos but they are rubbish, can't see anything!

Going for another scan Monday so going baby will be looking more like a baby after 4 days of growing (wishful)

Spindelina · 24/11/2016 20:17

If there is a fetal pole, does that make it less likely that I'll miscarry again? Previous losses have been 5-6 week embryo picked up at 12 week scan, and MC at 5+4.

I have, just be prepared for an internal scan.

It is nothing to worry about if you haven't had one before, but it's good to be warned about these things.

Unlikely to see a heartbeat, but last time I Googled it sometimes they do apparently, but it is very unlikely.

user1471461436 · 24/11/2016 20:21

I had one around 6 weeks. It was an internal scan, you can see a tiny cloudlike sac. Maybe a heartbeat, maybe not! I had another scan around 8 weeks which was external and i found the difference amazing. Heartbeat and much more defined blob. For what its worth, I have had bleeding throughout all 3 pregnancies. The first ended as a missed miscarriage, the other two perfectly fine. For an internal scan keep as calm as you can and they get a much better image and you are more comfortable

PenguinsandPebbles · 24/11/2016 20:24

Sorry cross-post I'm sure your prepared for the internal :)

nikki that's amazing!! And amazing to hear of heartbeats so early!

Fingers crossed for you all

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 24/11/2016 20:27

Yes me. I was admitted to hospital with hyperemesis and the doctors wanted to confirm the pregnancy to make sure that the vomiting wasn't food poisoning or something else Hmm .

There was a blob and they saw a heartbeat, straightaway, no problems. It was a gel-on-your-tummy scan, not an internal one. It was a great picture even though my bladder was completely empty - I hadn't been able to drink without throwing up for 3 days.

Spindelina · 24/11/2016 20:27

Thanks everyone. It sounds like it will be worthwhile, just to check everything is as it should be. Roll on 12 weeks!

Make sure your bladder is full - need to have drunk two big glasses (I had two pints) of water 2 hours before scan time. Full bladder pushes uterus up for better image... also less chance of dildo cam ;)

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 24/11/2016 20:34

I've had 3 ( one for a bleed and 2 suspected eptopic).

The first was at 6 weeks 2 and there was small blob with a flickering heart beat. Sadly that pregnancy ended at 11 weeks.

The second was at 6 weeks 4 days ( suspected ectopic) fetal pole and flickering heartbeat all in the right place. That tiny 0.3cm dot is a toddler now!

The last was pregnacy of unknown location and showed nothing. The led to repeat scans and blood tests before it was found to be an unusual ectopic a week or so later.

Early scans are bit of mixed blessing, in ideal world a they will see a healthy heart beat and measurement thatnmatch ( give or take a day or two) your dates. In this case the chance of going to term is close to 80%.

But things are so tiny and things change in a just a day or too. You might see egg sac and no heart beat or nothing at all. In that case in doesn't mean things will end badly but there then comes a horrible limbo while you wait for a follow up.

All I can say is in light of my own experiences Id opt for a scan. Seeing those flickering hearts was magical. In the case of my last pregnancy it let me know that my pregnancy wasn't viable much sooner than nature did. I had strong morning sickness but very odd spotting. I found knowing easier than the 'feeling something was wrong' and the scan speed up that process for me.

Wishing you lots of luck for a healthy happy prgnancy.

Nikki2ol6 · 24/11/2016 20:41

I'm 34 weeks now lol

imjessie · 24/11/2016 20:43

I had a fetal pole at 6 weeks . You can make out the sac and small line which was the baby . It was amazing !

eurochick · 24/11/2016 20:43

I've had two at 6+1. That was standard for my IVF clinic. Obviously there is no doubt with timing when fertilisation takes place in a lab. It's right on the borderline for being able to see a heartbeat. Good luck.

PenguinsandPebbles · 24/11/2016 21:02

dildo cam

It so is, someone had to say it Grin

But it's worth it for some peace of mind!

Spindelina · 24/11/2016 21:09

I come across the dildo cams professionally (I safety test them) and I have personal experience too. Oh the joys.

OP posts:
PenguinsandPebbles · 24/11/2016 21:59

Well you are very much prepared for dildo can Grin

My first time I had no idea, was already in quite a lot of distress and had very little warning. I'm very well aquantited with them now but that first time was awful! The things we do though.

I really hope all goes well for you tomorrow Flowers I have everything crossed for you

Lindy2 · 24/11/2016 22:10

I had one. They were able to do an external scan and the little blob actually has the outline of a head, body and legs. It's my favourite scan picture. She is 8 years old now.
